Skunk ate my friend Feb 4, 2008
A good friend of mine has smoked himself into near oblivion. Skunk, weed, what-ever it is that's going around these days.
He's done it to himself, I know that. But I'm so sad. I want my friend back. This man, I don't know him. My friend was big and self confident, quick and clever. Fearless, brave as any man.
This man doesn't look at me the way my friend used to & I hate it. I hate who he's become. It makes me so angry, and intimidating.
I don't want to intimidate my friend. I want him to stand with me, the way he used to.

My friend is dead Jun 4, 2007
Rob Bush, 24 years old. Killed by a car driver turning across his path on Saturday (June 2).
He was my mate. He had amazing curly blond hair, properly blond, the shyest smile and a seriously buff bod.
He was a genuinely great bloke, happy, smiley and friendly as a friendly thing.
He built that bike. We talked about it a lot, it was a lovely bike. 600 lump into a FZR400 frame. Took him some time and a couple of house moves to get it going, but he did it. Hacked up the thundercat airbox, got it in place and got the air-flow sorted right proper, even though you weren't sposed to be able to do that.
I will miss him. Didn't see him that often, being younger and busier. But he was my friend.

As my nan used to say Feb 23, 2007
It's not what y'know, it's who y'know.
Last nite, 20:10, M1 J1.
Me: Mart, whats y'doing mate?
Mart: Sitting at home. Hey, did you ever get anywhere with that bandsaw?
Me: Funny you ask that. What are you doing in about an hour?
Mart: Not a lot, why?
Me: Can you meet me at my house? Need a hand getting said bandsaw out of the boot!
Mart: No problem. See you in a bit.
Friends gotta love 'em.

Shock & Surprise & ting Dec 17, 2006
My phone connection died on Friday. utterly dead. No dial tone, no intarweb, nuffink.
So I ringed the BT helpdesk that night. Spoke to a nice young man, who did not appear to be in Bangalore, who said he couldn't do anything, as their puters were down. But that he would note the fault and enter it when the systems came back.
Liar.
Next thing, my neighbour's alarm goes off. At 1am. Beeping & booping that can be heard in ever' part of my house. Esp. my bedroom! Banging on the door revealed the whole house (how many peeps??) clustered around the panel, gawping.
With trusty Snap-On (namedropper) screwdriver in hand, I disconnect the backup battery and the main fuse. Silence. Back to bed.
So, Saturday, I log the fault again with BT. Who clearly have no knowledge of any prior faults. The nice lady informs me they can get an engineer out by Wednesday. Wooyay, feel the speed. But would I like to leave a contact number so I can be informed when the engineer gets round to looking at my problem? Hmm, would I? Let me think... YES, yes I would.
So, this morning, at EIGHT ACK EMMA, I gets the mobile a-ringing. Being on the 1st port of call for the call centre at work, I answer it. 'nother nice young man. From BT! *shocker*. He's in Fishermead, can he come over? Let me think....Yes Yes Yes Yes. I'll even set the kettle a-boilin.
Oh, says he on arrival. I was just in next door yesterday, some-one had been messing with their phone circuits. I saw some disconnected pairs, but didn't have any faults assigned that might be associated with them, so I left it.
Grrr.
Anyway, he diagnosed the fault as being next door. *Surprise*. He also managed to get some of them out of bed. Hah, if I'm awake, ever'bod can be awake. 45 mins after 1st contact, dial-tone & intarweb restored. Yay for BT!
Nextdoor have had a number of workmen in recently. P'raps one of them was an alarm type bod? Hmm? Feckers.
Quote of the week:
Me: you know it's BT when they have their own branded tool boxes. Eng: yeah. they're crap & break after two weeks.
