A red and blue web - presumably spun by superhero Spider-Man

magic space Hello Unknown Visitor my name is opticalillusion, but most people call me opti for short. I first came across h2g2 when I was at University and since then I've been caught up in this side of the web. Yes that's right just like the addiction of chocolate, h2g2 is addictive too. Be Warned!! Since my first steps I have conjured up several Entries to be added to the Edited Guide including: The Golden Retriever, Billy Connolly and Oxfordshire. For those who'd like to see all my solo Edited Entries click here.towel space

A farmers' market outside a pub in Worcestershire.

magic space A great way to start to get a feel for writing Entries here on h2g2 is by taking on a Flea Market Rescue, which once Edited will be added to the Hall of Scavengers. Those with five or more rescues will be awarded a nice shiny badge to add to their Personal Space (PS). Researchers on h2g2 also get badges for the amount of solo Entries they have written and being a volunteer such as Photographer or Scout. To keep a track of the Entries coming up and to view those that have passed during the month, click on the links. For those wanting to brush up on English Usage in Guide Entries go heremagic space

Dressed in red and white, two performers demonstrate various Capoeira moves on a rooftop against a dramatic London backdrop.

rose space When I'm not writing for the guide I can usually be found at work, watching TV, listening to a wide range of music, reading1, Postcrossing, maybe even sleeping. I'm also the event organiser when my family go on holiday. I would love to be paid for doing a job like this. I love the great outdoors rockclimbing (opti strong hands) and white water rafting. I also love dancing, acting and am interested in the world around me (who'd have guessed?). It's amazing how much there is to learn out there. I have visited a variety of places around the world. Here is a map of where fellow H2G2ers live.rose space

Many of my Entries are about celebrities. Do you know them well? Why not take the BBC: Hollywood Idols Quiz and find out.towel space

Those born in the year of the Boar (also known as the Pig) are said not to say much, though they have a thirst for knowledge. They don't have many friends, but those friends they do have are friends for life and they are exceptionally loyal to them. They tend to be chivalrous and gallant and they loathe arguments, despite their quick tempers. They face the problems of life head-on, and solve them with fortitude and honesty. Boars are said to be compatible with those born in the year of the Goat and Rabbit.

I'm so pleased you enjoyed the meet. It was a pleasure to finally meet you and I still can't get my head around how different you are from what I had imagined.space

You have a lovely voice and a good way with words, I noticed when you spoke in the City Tour group that everyone else was quiet and listened, not at all how you described that speech you gave and wrote up for The Post when you were so nervous, I wonder if there are two Optis - GBspace

Just practise your vocal techniques and send them to Skankyrich, he will soon let you know if your voice is going to be an asset to the group. Having heard you in person, I wouldn't anticipate there being a problem there. - Lilspace

Why don't you go here Scouts-Recruit and apply? I think you'd do a great job.space

You'll never know unless you give it a go. You've got your 25 badge now, which proves that you're good at what you do. You comment on lots of entries already, so the only difference would be that you'd get to pick your favourite Entries every month.– Richspace

Keep the Bios coming! – Icy Northspace

Its people like you that make H2G2 what it is, and I am glad there are quite a few, but only one Opti. - loftskywalkerspace

now you see me...

Ok I admit it once you are bitten by the h2g2 bug, you cant leave for good can you. There are so many great things about this site such as Askh2g2, the community, thepost and more that it's hard to leave it all behind. So if anyone feels like they'd like to be interviewed by me for thepost or just say hi. smiley I'm still around. magic

no not elvised
Sep 11, 2009

For those that have shown worry. No I've not elvised, I'm still around contributing somewhat but have majorly cut back from my involvement on h2g2 for reasons mentioned previously.

I still wish for the interviews to appear in thepost and to be a photographer and chat, but thats all for now. smiley

I have finally got a bit of a life too, so when I'm not working I'm enjoying spending my life dancing, on sl and have just returned from volunteering at a festival. I am also returning to studies.

Thanks to those who have expressed concern

Opti bluebutterfly (my way of saying peace to all)

Can I be blunt?
Aug 21, 2009

I have been contemplating my involvement in h2g2 and how I fare. I have grown tired of my Entries sitting around in Peer Review not getting picked which suggests to me that people are just not interested in what I write any more.

As a Scout I have noticed that there only ever appear to be two people who pick my Entries which support my theory too. I know theres no time limit but I certainly feel there's bias going on.

This in turn has made me grow weary about looking at others pieces and some don't excite from their title. Obviously this is not a bad thing either it would be boring if we all concentrated on one genre.

This draws me to the conclusion that I should sit back a bit answer threads, enjoy being a photographer and continue lovingly putting together interviews for thepost . In turn I will not feel like I'm working but at peace with h2g2.

Opti's Holiday
Jul 26, 2009

Never knowing what I am doing from one week to the next can be very frustrating, but when my boss went on holiday he left three rotas on the wall announcing what was happening each week he was away and the last showed that I did indeed have a weeks holiday. So what do you do with a week off? I started wondering about all the possibilities and the fact that I really wanted to escape when I struck gold and reminded my father that he had come up with the idea of going to Venice to take photos. My parents have been before, but I hadn't gone and so it was that we packed our bags and with one suitcase and two rucksacks between us we headed off to sunnier climes.

Now when it comes to researching a place I like to gather all my information when I get there and mull it all over. This time though I was so pleased with myself that I had downloaded a copy of h2g2's guide to Venice as there was little in the way of leaflets and the like and the tourist information area was only open for questions! So a huge thank you goes out to all those who wrote that brilliant entry. I saw the Rialto area, the Grand Canal, Peggy Guggenheim collection, the Molo, The bridge of Sighs, Doges Palace, Clock Tower, Basilica and Cà Rezzonico thanks to you lot. Although I did add yet another book to my collection a children's book on the place, I would recommend that anyone going anywhere search for an entry on here before they go. As for photos did we get any? My father got lots, while I was very content just to escape from the daily grind, soak up the sun, get lost a few times and find myself again.

While I was there I discovered this quote:

When I went to Venice I found my dream had turned - incredibly but quite simply - into my address. – Marcel Proust

That really sums it up, I wish I were still there.
