ABOUT THIS RESEARCHER

Created: 15th April 2003
Too Old to Compete - but I can still dream.

Me, Myself and ISome of my Interests Here

Nostalgia ain't what it used to be!

It Was Long Ago But Wasn't Far Away.

As a (well) over 21 year old Taxi Driver in Edinburgh, I'm a confirmed lurker who has decided it's time I came out into the light and allowed the world a chance to appreciate my brilliance.cdouble

Having served an apprenticeship in electronics (if I can call it that as I can remember using vacuum tubes and the introduction of the first integrated circuit chips). I got into Taxi Driving as a short term time-filler after the firm I worked for was bought over and I jumped before I was pushed. That was about 1990!

Other things I can remember include the Acorn Atom, BBC Micro and the Atari ST. Then followed my first PC and I've never really recovered since.headhurts

I have been quietly messing about on the web for some time now and my one claim to fame is being involved with running the website for the 70 Wild Miles charity Triathlon. This explains where the first part of my nickname comes from.

In case anyone wonders what changes a lurker of long standing into a full blown and committed (at least SHE WHO RULES says I should be committed) researcher - in my case it was finally deciding to cough up the cash and get broadband!

     p.s. 22 + 5(1+1*3)    or     2*(25-(1*(1+3)))

You can rely on Billy!
Sep 1, 2004

Ahhh... Micro$haft.. Yes, you can always rely on Micro$**t!

Guess who suffered a total mental breakdown and thought it might be a good idea to install Service Pack 2 for Windows XP? wah

But I'm back! Yes, after nearly 24 hours of frustration I've finally managed to get this machine back to where it was last night. Someone once said that whatever doesn't kill us can only make us stronger, (or something like that), if anyone could direct me towards him I've a trick involving a size 12 tackity boot and his nether regions that I'd like to demonstratewinkeye .

I'm Back!!!!!
Jun 10, 2004

So it's Friday night (27th May), and the phone line goes down - zilch, nada, bleep all!

Onto BT on the mobile - and yes, there's a fault, and the engineers will fix it as soon as possible... Fair enough, these things happen sadface .

Sunday, still no phone, but the broadband is back - though the connection breaks after about 15mins and I have to redial... Still, it shows something is being done erm .

Monday, (30th May) phone is back biggrin ! But the broadband is gone wah !

From then I've been dealing with the usual round of bleep \%$#*! brain-dead idiots on the BT fault line answering callcentre who insist that since their line test says that there's nothing wrong, then the script that they're following means that it MUST be something wrong with the set-up at my end of the line <bangingheadagainstbrickwallsmiley>.

Thursday, (June 10) BT engineer finally arrives at door to check line at this end magic . Of course, no-one told him that the problem started with a genuine fault on the phone line or that I might even have an idea of what I'm talking about winkeye . A quick check on the line into the house and he's off to the exchange - an hour later and here I am... Back Online!! bubbly

Next installment will probably be when the bill comes in and they try to charge for the time I've been been offline - that should be lots of laughs!
