Hello!

I'm hannah, i'm 18, and i live in the westcountry (uk for any foreigners). i'm now studying law (and the art of getting drunk!) at Queen Mary's college in london. Its currently v interesting, so hopefully itll stay like that. and freshers week was fantastic!!

schooloffish

hobbies

i love reading; terry pratchett and douglas adams particularly, but anything that involves magic and fairy is also good.
I like drawing, but am annoyingly not very good. I have a very vivid imagination, which means i can see exactly what i want to draw, but i can't draw it!
I learnt to snorkel about 6 years ago, and i loved itschooloffish . I have been scuba diving twice, and would really like to train, but i can't afford it yet.
I play the violin and piano, and singwhistle . I would love to get a band together-will try when i get to uni. I really enjoy all kinds of music.

JOURNAL
big news
Feb 29, 2004

i now have a rock on my left hand! its all v exciting!
telling my parents was a bit of a trial, but they were v happy, which was good. the only downside is the sheer size of my family, which means i had to listen to "congratulations! you must be so happy! how did it happen? did he get down on one knee? was it very romantic?"
i have nothing against those questions, its just answering them uni friends, friends at home, andrews friends, mine and his parents, both my sets of grandparents, 4 sets of aunts and uncles, numerous great aunts and uncles, *and* cousins and siblings all gets a bit much!

tuesday
i've been protesting ever since i got to uni, going on marches and stuff, and i was up stupidly early on tuesday lobbying my mp (who turned out to be out of the country until 5 mins before the vote, and therefore not able to speak to any students about their views, sorry for any inconvenience) and demo-ing (but the demo was a bit of a wash out, was hijcked my socialist worker people and lots of arrests etc, which was exactly the publicity we didn't need)
and it was all for nothing. in 2006, everyone who wants an education will be paying £9k for a standard degree. and in 2010, when the government say the cap is coming off, the same degree will cost you £45k at places like oxbridge, imperial, lse.
how is this fair? how can people who had a completely free education, with grants, decide that we have to pay exorbiant amounts for ours? and its mostly to do with this stupid percentage that the government have seemingly picked out of thin air-50% of people will be in higher education. except they won't, because they won't be able to afford it. its a stupid idea anyway. a much better thing would be to say; anyone that wants to will be able to get a university degree. and we need far much more emphasis on apprenticeships and GNVQs for people who don't want a degree, and would rather learn a trade.
wednesday
the hutton report. or rather, selected bits of the report in the sun, hours before it officialy came out. lord hutton is of course livid, but having realised that it was almost certainly leaked by labour, who saw it at noon on tuesday, is persuing legal action against the newspaper, not the leak. and the report itself was a total wash out anyway. he said that dr kelly killed himself because his name was leaked, but then refused to even address the issue of who leaked it, and just slated the bbc, leaving labour smelling of roses. look out for the shortlist for new director general. its going to be interestingly labour orientated.
but wednesday turned out not to be so bad after all, at about 5pm, when we got 45mins of blizzard, leaving us 3 inches of snow which settled, and froze, and stayed there till friday, meaning that although getting into uni was hell, we could go sledging and build snowmen and stuff, all of which i did with great enthusiasm!
enough about me, how was everyone elses week?

happy belated christmas!
Jan 12, 2004

just got back to uni, had 3 weeks at home, which went by really fast, so haven't had time to ask you all how it went.
so how did it go? highlights this year were a new fone, which means i can talk for more than 30s without the battery running out! and a new tele for the family from grandparents (our last one was 20yrs old!!) with dvd player, freeview box and surround sound! was almost enough to make me drop out and just stay at home watching bid-up tv!!
didn't make it back up to london in time for the h2g2 meet, which was a shame; really wanted to go. did anyone go? what was it like?
was nice being home for the holidays; london is great but does get tiring. and polluted, which is not nice. and i managed to bring some friends from uni down for a while-they've been teasing me mercilessly about living in the middle of no-where, so i brought them to stay, and showed them our neighbours bmw's, jags, mercs, plasma screen teles, £500k houses etc... (just to clarify-they have money-we don't. we've been living there for 20yrs and when we moved there it was a much poorer area!!)
went up to london for new years eve which was cool-started drinking at andrews house at 4, then went to vodka revolution and drunk some more, and more, and i can't really remember getting home, but i've been told i was having some quite interesting conversations with people! and theres allegedly a foto of me propped up against a lamp post, fast asleep, in the rain with balloons tied to my wrists!!
hope you all had a good time, am back at uni now, not looking forward to the results of the exams they made us do 6DAYS before christmas (and hence exams which i completely failed to do any revision for whatsoever!!)
i'll keep you posted!

i'm back!
Oct 4, 2003

for any of you that noticed that i'd actually been away! am now firmly settled into the life of being a student-i've st9opped eating properly, i've definitely started drinking properly, and i've missed my first lecture already! also, having been away from a computer for so long, i've also forgotten how to type, which explains any mistakes in this entry!
how is everybody? hope you are all doing well. will take me *ages* to catch up with my backlog, so apologies for that.
student life is great, there was a time (around the end of freshers week) when i thought this is all very well, but i really *don't* want to start work again-i'd rather just carry on going out and getting pissed! but all my lectures so far have been pretty interesting, and altho i'm still on my foundation course (1st 2 weeks) the timetable hasn't been that hectic yet. and i'm in london!! have been doing the markets-i love camden, its fantastic. going food marketing tomoro-i'd really, really like some sundried tomatoes, pine nuts and balsamic vinegar, but they're too expensive in the shops! my student loan has come through, and i'm spending it with abandon, so i will probably be job hunting soon...
anyway, i should probably start catching up with the backlog. now i'm settled in, i should be able to keep in touch fairly regularly
speak soon
hannah Xx
