ABOUT THIS RESEARCHER

Created: 19th February 2003
Well, hello ...
So you want to know who I am? What a strange request. And you can't even be sure I'm telling the truth. I could be anyone ... but here, now, I am Aliphil.

Aliphil is the alter ego of a scared little girl hiding in the body of a woman. The little girl lets herself out sometimes, only in private. Sometimes she crawls out of the woman's mouth, and sometimes she flows out of the woman with the blood that flows from the cuts the woman makes on her arms. cry

But Aliphil doesn't need to resort to these tricks. Aliphil is who the little girl would like to grow up to be. She is strong and brave and intelligent, she is always learning because she is always reading, and she can sing like an angel and love people like a pelican.

Here, now, I am Aliphil. smiley

Now, how much of that do you believe?

JOURNAL
Doctors
Apr 9, 2003

I hate all doctors (except my mother, and she's retired anyway).

I went to see one last week about my depression. I am not stupid, I read up on the symptoms of depression, I did an online self-diagnosis test. I told the doctor about all my symptoms. (Well, not quite all, I kept quiet about the one that would get me labelled FREAK.)

"Oh no, you're not depressed. This is normal for you."

Excuse me? This woman has never met me before and she has the cheek to tell me what's normal for me! Would she give me anti-depressants? No! Would she refer me for counselling? No! Would she do anything? Oh yes. "Just lose some weight and you'll find the problem goes away."

Gee thanks. OK, I am overweight, but not by that much. And now come everything else (not sleeping, not concentrating, etc.) is a symptom of an underlying problem, but being overweight IS THE PROBLEM? What if I'd shown her the scars on my arm? Are they just a symptom of being overweight? Would she have tried to tell me that this is normal?
