ABOUT THIS RESEARCHER

Created: 30th December 2002
Welcome to my world....

... and won't you come on in?

A few things you may like to know:

  • My name's David
  • I am 26
  • I'm Scottish
  • I grew up in South Africa

I've resisted writing anything much in here for a very long time... but, well, you may never read this! So I have to write at least a few things that you'll never read...

Now, I can't do all those fancy things like welcoming {INSERT YOUR NICK IN HERE} to my space and wishing you a happy visit; or have floaty pictures from left to right; or big fancy fonts and pictures; or this and that. So instead, to satisfy my laziness, you'll have to put up with the ordinariness of this instead.

Things I like

I don't like saying what I like because I like lots of things and if I were to say one thing that you happened to dislike then you may assume lots of things about me just from that one of many things I like and also guess, quite incorrectly, that I dislike things opposed to it.

But also if I were to say I liked something you liked then you would, and I know you would, assume that I liked all of the things you liked which could only lead to me saying "Yes, I do like that" or, more likely, "Mmmm... I don't really like that."

Which is why I won't give a list of likes and dislikes here.

Things I do

But I can tell you some things that I do... a list should be enough.
  • I read. A lot. Mainly fiction, non-fiction and poetry.
  • I listen to music. Of many kinds, but I don't "like all sorts". Anyone that says that they "like all sorts of music" and means it doesn't like music at all. You need to hate something to be able to love something. I hate jazz... that means I can love something else.
  • I play music... guitar (well), mandolin (better), piano (badly), harmonica (worse).
  • I write. No comment.
  • I travel. In the past four years I have been to Greece, Morocco, Australia and Central America. Not much, I need more stamps in passport.

Two wee limericks

To write a short poem in humour
can muster in some a brain tumour.
But to say a poem is jest
is worse than the rest
is to encourage an ill-advised rumour.

Dylan the superhero duck
was running a bit low on luck
'cos when rushing to save us
from superheated meteors
he crashed into a bridge. "Holy ___!"

Ahem. Well anyway, anything else you wanted?

JOURNAL

This is where any Journal Entries would appear, if this Researcher had made any. Unfortunately they haven't managed to write anything, which is a shame because their Journal is where they could tell everyone what they've been up to. Is your Journal empty too? If so, this is how it'll appear to other Researchers who visit your Personal Space.
