Just Bob: I'm back!

Beware, Unknown Visitor, we are watching your every move.
I'm Bob Thompson (or Rob). I studied Chemistry until 2006 at UMIST and Manchester Metropolitan University in Manchester , the ancestral home of my father's side of the family. I myself hie from Essex, more specifically Chelmer Village if you know that area well. I went to King Edward VI Grammar School, where I failed to become a classic grammar school genius (too lazy, see the link at the bottom) or a normal kid (too academic).
Sticking to the standard formula: my hobbies include cycling and table tennis, although I'm not much good at either, Japanese anime, films (wel over a thousand since the start of 2002), reading (hence my interest in h2g2) and a whole gamut of other niche or cult interests. My idol is Neil Gaiman, although Alan Moore sometimes makes it a close-run thing.
As I said, I've seen a _lot_ of films at the cinema and at home. So many, indeed, that I set up a Film Discussion Lounge to help share my opinions on all the films I see, and to find out the opinions of others. It fell flat. Still, I now feel qualified to write my five favourite (i.e. not necessarily the 5 best) films of all time. In no particular order:
    Princess Mononoke
    Watership Down
    Equilibrium
    The Quiet American
    Ghost in the Shell
As you can see, the list is dominated by animation, but that's just the way it is.
I also attended two of the England football friendly games in the run-up to the 2002 World Cup, and a League Cup semi-final in support of Manchester United.
I aspire to international travel, if I can scrape together any surplus from my rubbish wages and left-over student debt. During my school days, I travelled with a party of friends to Peru and had the time of my life, despite the fact that our adult supervisor was an idiot. My planned trip to Madagascar for Summer 2002 lapsed to the unforeseeable future, when I can arrange my finances to have some money spare during the Summer, but this may not happen due to a small civil war there a few years ago. Reportedly, the capital Antananarivo (sic) was under siege from the rural party, who refused to accept that they lost the election, and I have heard nothing of any resolution to the problem. Somehow, I will get there. Expect me to return with h2g2 entries: presently, info on Mad is conspicuous by its sparsity.
My first ever Guide entry on Eddy Merckx was added to the Edited Guide a while back, and I am currently trying to write an extensive piece on the cycling World Cup. I may also start writing other guide entries on professional cycling, including such subjects as Chris Boardman, the Tour de France, and cycling tactics. It all depends on how conscientious I feel over the next few months.
I have in the past spent a great deal of time hanging around the h2g2 Campsite although that scene periodically calms down to a wilderness.
I also support the Sheep Revolt now going under the name 'Operation Human Shock', although that went underground a while back and has yet to reappear.
The Musehome is good if you want a title and a guaranteed conversation any time you're bored.
I am also now an official Procrastinator. My list of past titles and nickname add-ons so far is:
    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhh!
    Charles Kennedy's lapdog
    Keeper of The Score
Muse of Nitpickers and Harmless Eccentricity
    49% Frenchman
    Smarcher
    Pern fan (KTL, Triad PBEM)
    Operation 'Human Shock' Head Historian
    Sentient search engine
    Thundercat of Owlatron
    Anti-ABBA Campaigner
Sanity is wasted on the sane
    Unity is abhorrent
    Film Discussion Lounge A966161
Just read: "Batman: Killing Joke" by Alan Moore
Currently reading: "The Sword of Shannara" by Terry Brooks
Next book: Probably the third in the Hellblazer series by Warren Ellis

Jun 13, 2003

Tomorrow my mum is coming to pick me (and my trunkloads of stuff) up from university and take me home for the summer. Unfortunately, this means that I won't be using h2g2 much, as we have 6 people in the house and only one computer with internet access. I'll try to report in every now and then, but I'm not making any promises.
