ABOUT THIS RESEARCHER

Created: 3rd October 2001
Graham Mallaghan
I am a 33 year old postgraduate research student, in Medieval English Literature, and also a private tutor of English to young people from overseas. As such I work too hard, thus proving my intellectual inferiority to Dolphins.

As someone who read, and re-read, along with all his friends Douglas Adam's 'Hitchhiker' novels, along with the radio scripts and other material, as a teenager, and since, I was enthralled and excited to see that attempts were being made to actually create the Guide entry for earth, beyond 'Mostly Harmless.'

I have a wide range of interests, and hope to contribute on a wide range of subjects, but Roman and Medieval History, Literature, and Political Thought, Christian Theology, eighteenth century literature and Romantic poetry are my areas of serious interest. I would also like to contribute whimsical articles on almost anything, especially geographical trivia, political satire and politics, and anything Douglas Adams related. I also love a good conspiracy theory, and anything humourous on technology. I used to work for Siemens, a company that make almost anything electronic (with varying degrees of practicality and success, practicality, and triumph of function over design), and which is almost certainly an excellent terrestrial parallel of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation.

If anyone can help, I'd love to get a facia for my mobile phone emblazoned with 'Don't Panic', in 'large friendly letters.' I think that Douglas Adams actually inadvertantly invented the WAP/GPRS phone, as the information I get on mine certainly comprises of 'much that is wildly apochryphal, or at least wholly inaccurate.' I am sure that the electronic guide, updated live, is one of the best things which the mobile phone, and wireless internet, have given us, and must to some extent have been inspired by Douglas Adams' creations. I am sure also that many mobile phone network marketing executives (as well as anyone associated with their call centres) will be the 'first to haver their backs against the wall when the revolutions comes).

I'm also interested in modern folklore, the paranormal, and both ancient and modern Arthurian mytrhology, and the Celtic factoid in all its myriad manifestations. I am also interested in Holy Wells, sites of water veneration, and with Bronze Age religious monuments.

I'd like to make new friends on this site, and will have a go at writing an entry on almost anything, so any suggestions and dialogue would be warmly welcomed. I may be e-mailed on gpm2@ukc.ac.uk.

Graham.

JOURNAL

This is where any Journal Entries would appear, if this Researcher had made any. Unfortunately they haven't managed to write anything, which is a shame because their Journal is where they could tell everyone what they've been up to. Is your Journal empty too? If so, this is how it'll appear to other Researchers who visit your Personal Space.
