Ahoy hoy!
Greetings to all who pass through the hallowed halls of the University of Turmoil!
Started here in August 2001 after seeing a documentary on Douglas Adams on TV. Then work and a forgotten password meant I was away for a while, but I'm back now!
University of Turmoil? Perhaps it sounds familiar as an item on a radio show presented a while back by Danny Baker. The idea was that his co-presenter Danny Kelly (ex-Q editor) trawled through the day's newspapers, clipping out photos of people in odd situations where they would have perferred not to have been photographed, really. There were combined with surreally odd headlines, also culled from the papers. In a final twist, each celebrity picture would have the word "TURMOIL" pencilled in by Kelly over their forehead like a bizarre tattoo. Danny Baker would then be handed each picture and attempt to describe it on-air to the listeners, usually deteriorating into a fit of silent laughter. OK - you had to be there!
Nevertheless, this simple game has occupied me and my friends for years. Every so oft, a thick and highly decorated envelope plops through the letterbox, filled with TURMOIL pictures. Some are being scanned, and we hope to get them up on a website in the future (libel laws permitting), so watch this space for a link!
