So who is Amy Pawloski, anyway?

I am!

biggrin

But I suppose I should answer that question... When I figure it out, I'll let you know, OK?

Any other questions?

OK, let's leave philosophy out of this... Who is Amy Pawloski?

Oh, alright...

As should be obvious, since I'm using my real name, I'm a woman. I've been Mrs Pawloski since July 12, 1997, and I'm now 35. My husband's name is Tom, and so is his dad's1. Tom has joined h2g2, as Thomas Didymus2, though he's not been online since very shortly after he joined. Oh, and I'm American3.

Anyone that's read my journal4 knows that I'm a mom. PaperKid was born on July 11, 20035, which just happened to be my second H2G2 anniversary! Life hasn't been the same sinceheadhurts wow love She's been joined by Notepad as of February 16, 2009.

What does 'aka "paper lady"' refer to?

Well, once upon a time, there was a Radish that I really, really wanted to attend, but it was in Leeds, and I'm nowhere near there. (Maybe this would be a better link for info on the Radish...) I whined a bit, and Amy the Ant gave me her email address, so I did a hurried sketch, scanned it and sent it to her, so I could be there in paper, if not in person. Afterwards, I found out that Wumbeevil took the pictures, and I left him a message asking about them that began something like 'Yes, it's me, the paper lady'. We chatted a while, and I mentioned that I actually liked puns. Later, on another thread, I complained about the caption on the picture of 'me' in the men's room, and Wumbeevil responded that he thought that 'a certain paper lady liked puns'. I decided that I liked 'paper lady', but that I wanted to keep my name...

And I've been having fun playing with the concept of being made of paper here on h2g2...

You seem to have been on H2G2 a long time--do you have any badges?

Badges? We don' need no stinkin' badges!

But since when has need meant anything to a packrat? winkeye

Wow, that's a lot of badges. Any badge-less activities, or have you just been collecting pretty pictures?

No, I'm not just collecting picturestongueout Though I will admit I haven't been very active lately in most of these things (nor in the badged thigs, either, for that matter).

I'm Royal Reminderer in the Court of King 2legs.

I'm Keeper of inside jokes, even after they're not funny to anyone else anymore...6

I'm one of the Amys, a questioner7 (we won the race to 10K8 posts!), and I admit to my addiction...

And I received a wolf cub from Amy† shortlly after I joined h2g2. She's an adorable ball of golden fur with mahogony eyes, and I've named her Flamedancer9

I was interviewed for the Post! 29.11.2001...

Go check out my entry on Epilepsy, which made the Front Page on 11.1.02...

OK, for all those breathlessly waiting10, I've finally gotten around to updating my H2G2 Code11...

So, do you know lots of people on H2G2?

I'd say so! I used to list the majority of them, but since the Friends' List was started, I use that when I want to visit people, mostly. That said, a lot of the people I've known aren't on H2G2 anymore, and some of those I don't have any other way to contact themsadface

Some of my friends can be found here13.

You can find the location of lots of H2G2ers here, not just people I know.

Have you had any offline contact with any H2G2ers?

Yepbiggrin I've met some face-to-face, and spoken on the phone with more!

OK, this is the last question, I swear... What on earth is a mufflewhump???

Fair question, as I'm constantly giving them out...

A mufflewhump is whatever you want it to be, but it's always very wonderful. Therefore, mufflewhumps are the best gifts... They stay in their balls-of-unrealized-potential state20 until taken up by (or given to) someone who has a definite want, either conscious or unconscious. Mufflewhumps can become nearly anything21--the only limitations are that they can't become something sentient or something that can be used against the interests of the giver. They're quite handy, as well as being great gifts--I've often picked one up while concentrating and gotten things I need here on h2g2.

Growing up so fast

Grace has been cruising (holding on to furniture/whatnot while taking steps) for a couple days, and today she actually let go while standing on purpose (as opposed to not noticing she's not holding on to anything, and sitting as soon as she does noticelaugh ) wow

She's got 4 teeth--2 up, 2 down.

Faith is a wonderful big sister, and also has new teeth--3 on the bottom, another space awaiting a tooth on the bottom, and a big gap up top--we laugh that Grace got her top teeth before Faith did. Faith says she can feel a corner of a top incisor finally breaking through, though. Thumb-sucking's still a struggle--Faith has made it past 2 weeks of no thumb (we owe her a trip to the snow) but can't seem to make a month. She had a fallback 3 weeks in, and seems almost to have given up. I have certainly not told her that there's actually a movie at the theater right now that I'd be willing to take her to if she'd made it a month, because she's hard enough on herself. Don't know where she got *that* tendency from whistle

Just a few little changes... Only 3, actually...

The latest change at work is now common knowledge, so now I'll finally get around to writing what being back to work these last few months have been likelaugh

For those that don't know/have forgotten, I work as an instructional assistant with the special ed./resource program (those kids that need extra help, but not enough to not be in a regular class for the vast majority of the time) and have been at my school since January of '07--long enough for a kid I worked with in kindergarten to now be in 3rd gradebigeyes I worked with Mrs. P until I went on maternity leave last year. I knew I'd be working with a new teacher this autumn, because Mrs. P was burned out on the paperwork after 29 years (not on the kids--just the red tape and hoop-jumping) and chose to take early retirement. Retirement's fairly easy to explain, and she didn't leave until the end of the school year, so there weren't a lot of problems there (aside from having to get to know a new teacher).

So my first day back, on the first day of this school year, I met Mr. B., and found that A was going to be the other aid again (she'd been an individual student's aid when I left, though she been an aid with me before--I'd even been smart enough to swap schedules with her so she would have the morning stuff down pat before I left, then there were staffing changes) so the kids would have at least something familiar--we'd changed rooms, as well (good change--we'd been in a half-room, and it was the other half that had the thermostat and the sink). Except most the kids I was used to working with had aged out of the school, and 9/10 of the kids we'd be working with this year were added to the resource program after I'd left on maternity leave at the end of last January. Anyway, I got along well with Mr. B, and, while he completely changed the way resource was being done, we got the bumps smoothed out in a decent amount of time. We did have subs fairly often--Mr. B had some curriculum training to do, as he'd been in Thailand teaching ESL for a year. While in Thailand, he met his (now) wife, so he had to be gone for immigration reasons at times, too. It turns out his wife is terminally ill. Because of the immigration issue, she can only go to one of 2 clinics, both over 6 hours away. She started having very bad reactions to her medication, so Mr. B had to resign and move so that she could go to the doctor several times a week. Completely understandable (I just would've liked to know before Mr. B's very last day that he was going to have a last day...) This was in midNovember.

Mr. B's replacement was Mrs. F, who isn't actually certified for special ed, so Mrs. O (semi-retired, but certified) has been with her to do paperwork and testing and such. It's been a great personality match. While there's been a few changes to how things are done, most kids accept different-teacher-different-ways. About a week before break, Mrs. F told A and I that she wouldn't betaking the certification course while teaching our class, after all--legally, since she wasn't certified, the district had to post the position, which they did for 2 days. Everyone assumed no one would answer the post in that amount of time. Well, they assumed wrongerm So I get to help break in a *third* teacher this year. The kids just learned today that next week is Mrs. F's last week, and Mrs. K's first--they're going to overlap, so this transition should be a bit smoother. This time, some students don't understand why the teacher is leaving--just because of a special piece of paper. All the adults understand, and can even see the reasoning, but it still sucks. The student in charge of designing the welcome banner for next week suggested that we leave the new teacher's name off, in case she doesn't stay, either, so it can be re-used. Mrs. K *will* likely be here at the end of the year, but who can blame the student for being cautious? After all, the school year isn't even half over yet, and everyone will be meeting a new "permanent" teacher for the 3rd time.

Putting candles on Tom's cake
Nov 21, 2009

I realized, as I was taking out the extra candles (box of 36, and he's 32 today) that, after my next birthday next month, two boxes of candles will be needed.

I'm going to be a whole box of candles old.

That almost feels as weird as when I realized I was a quarter of a century a while ago.

Next weirdness? 42!

Been awhile (again)...
Aug 12, 2009

I haven't posted any journals (except birthday announcements) since May 31! No wonder it seems like it's been awhile...

One excuse is that the keyboard on this laptop has a funky spacebar--I usually have to go back and insert spaces, which is annoying and takes forever. Of coarse, I could always go up and get the other keyboard and plug it in, which I didok

Anyway, I'll try to get caught up chronologically, though if stuff goes with something earlier, I'll talk about that stuff topically, instead.

erm

That will make sense, I promiseok

June--

Faith "graduated" from kindergartenloveblush We do have pictures--they're just not online yet, and they're not very good--the only camera we have right now (and then) is on Tom's phone. Plus Faith was in a hurry to get back to her seat after getting her diploma, so there's just a white blurlaugh Part of the ceremony was a slideshow of pictures taken throughout the year (including one of me helping in Faith's class 4 days before Grace was born--due to the angle, I don't look pregnant at alllaugh ) and each kindergartener--excuse me, ex-kindergartener--received a dvd, including (as I learned later) one who had moved to South Carolina, thus reducing the amount of boys in the class to 3. (Unless some boys have registered over the summer, there will be only 2 male first graders--one of the boys was not ready to move on. Luckily, the 2 boys get along well!) Be glad I'm clueless about YouTube, or you might be subjected to itevilgrin Faith's grades arrived in the mail a couple weeks ago--her lowest grade was 95.54%! Evidently, kindergarteners are subjected to standardized tests nowadays--Faith is at her grade level for reading, the equivilent of someone 2.5 years older in math, and listens as well as someone 3.7 grades above herbigeyes

After I honestly don't know how many years (more than 6, though, because I remember it fading totally when I was pregnant with Faith--which did not happen this last pregnancy) I finally talked to a doctor about my red nose, which had spread to be my red cheeks and chin, as well. My speculation that it may be rosacea turned out to be correct, and I got a prescription, which has worked wonders. I'm almost embarrassed to say that not having a red nose makes me feel a lot better, but who cares if I'm that shallowtongueout

July--

The biggest thing in July is that we ran a fireworks stand for the first time, with basically just Tom and myself, from June 28-July 2, with a couple of extra people on the 3rd and 4th, and then us again on the 5th. OK, mostly just Tom the first stretch--I basically was bathroom relief and food-bringer. This booth was to raise funds for the ministry--and the fireworks guy said we did quite well, especially for it being our first time (Tom had helped with a booth last year, but he hadn't been the one in charge). The 4th itself, we were quite busy--Grace and I were to be in the parade to represent our ministry, Faith was in the kid's choir on our church's float, and Tom was, of course, in the booth. After the parade, Faith went with her grandparents', and a friend of ours watched Grace. Both of these babysitting jobs turned out to be overnighters--I didn't get home until nearly 1 am, and Tom got home even later. We are going to do some things differently next year--more people, for a start! And the person we have stay in the booth each night, as a nightwatchperson, will have their own mobile, vehicle, or both. Preferably both.

I *almost* got to meet Phred and Mrs. Firecloud, but things didn't work out. Maybe next time they come this way, if they doshrug

We'd gotten a Wii after Christmas, and we bought EA Active (an exercise game), which I've been doing. I haven't lost weight, in fact I've gained some, but since my clothes are looser, it must be musclesmiley

Faith's birthday party on the 11th went well. She did get what she really really wanted--an Easy Bake Oven. A friend of ours had one that her kids never used, and gave it to Tom and I so it could be from us. The only problem is, you have to have a 100 watt bulb--a regular one, not soft white, not energy-saving, not any other wattage, because it's the heat from the bulb that cooks the things. Now, what do you think that I have been unable to find? Granted, I haven't hit the hardware stores yet, but I've been to every other store in town...

For our 12th anniversary, Tom and I went out for dinner, and went to see the Star Trek movie that came out in May at the drive-in.

We got a new (to us) pickup truck towards the end of the month.

August--

I had a follow-up appointment (having had a lood test) and my cholesterol's a little high--my LDL's 140. I didn't think to ask what my other numbers weredoh

Grace was weighed and measured--she's now 15 pounds and 25.25 inches. Her actual checkup is next month.

We have an appointment down in Redding the evening of the 19th, and then we're continuing south to Sacramento to show Grace off. We'll be returning on the 24th, and then the *next* weekend, we're going to be in Hoopa. Church picnic is the 30th, and the first day of school is September 1st. I'm going to be taking a break from the internet (except for email and maybe working some more on http://www.reachoutus.org which has been neglected--not that I know a whole lot to be able to do to it) starting tomorrow and going through to at least the 19th--if I have access after that, before we get home, you may see me herewinkeye

In between the big stuff, of course, is taking care of the girls, spending time with my husband, and other things along those lines that would make for even more boring reading.
