ABOUT THIS RESEARCHER

Created: 17th September 2001
Ah! Come in...

Hello Unknown Visitor! Welcome to my space.

A tree

Not much to say really. I have just turned 40 and live with my husband in Hertfordshire, UK.
I love cats. We have a little girl cat called Tasha. Both Jake and his brother Charlie were our first cats but Jake passed away on February 16th 2004 and we recently lost Charlie in the same way on April 15th 2006. We miss them both terribly.

A large lady with a tiny lycra dress

I am currently taking time off work to get fit and healthy...in other words lose a vast amount of weight and get a life!

Running shoes, hand weights and water

I recently ran (OK I walked) in one of Cancer Research's Race for Life. It marked the first anniversary of a new me. I finished the course and raised an amazing £250.

We are all losers...

I was inspired to lose weight by a beautiful person called Kelli. She wrote all about her efforts in weight loss and shared her experiences, good and bad, with us. I was determined to follow in her footsteps and lose weight. It took nearly 2 years after first contact to begin my journey. There are a few researchers on the same journey right now and progress is charted on the Saturday weight loss thread. So far I have managed to lose 4 stone in 7 months.

Have you ever wondered what your fellow researchers look like? The quite magnificent azahar has put together a fantastic album of our ugly mugs so that you can satisfy that curiosity. Visit the h2g2 friends photo gallery and join in the Conversation

Things I like...

Cats. Words. Las Vegas. CSI. Chocolate. My bed. Johnny Depp. Swimming. Optimism. Autumn. Onomatopoeia.

Onomatopoeia

The word Onomatopoeia means "formation or use of words such as buzz or murmur that imitate the sounds associated with the objects or actions they refer to"

Click. Hiss. Splash. Boom. Pop. Purr. Quack. Tweet...and my all time favourite PLOP!

Things I DON'T like...

Ignorance. Offal. Intolerance. Coronation Street. Jeremy Clarkson. Lateness. Thunderstorms (Astraphobia).

Astraphobia

An abnormal and persistent fear of thunderstorms. Sufferers experience anxiety even when they realize the risk of harm is very small. Consequently, when indoors they might seek shelter under a bed, in a closet or in a basement. They generally keep a watchful eye on the sky and remain alert for reports of electrical storms.

I have this. I dread the summer days when a storm is forecast. It is worse at night. I wish I didn't have this fear but as with all phobias it is just one of those things. I have to deal with it.

That's it for now...

Thank you for visiting Unknown Visitor. Drop in any time.

I'm in a mess
Nov 5, 2006

I am panicking.

Tasha went out this morning at 10. She's not come home. It is dark now and as it is Guy Fawkes night I am seriously worried. She does not do this. She is a home cat. She goes out to wee etc but always comes back in.

I have all sorts of horrible thoughts running around my head right now. Some are ridiculous.

I broke down in tears about half an hour ago. If she is still alive she must be so frightened now. There are fireworks going off everywhere.

Please come home baby girl.

Very sad day.
Apr 15, 2006

At about 10:30 this morning, Saturday 15th April 2006, we lost Charlie blackcat to cancer. He was so weak and had lost so much weight in the two weeks we were away. I can't write too much more on the subject right now - it's all too raw.

He did not suffer. He went to sleep.

cry I love you baby. RIP rose

One week to go!
Mar 25, 2006

Oh my! yikes wow

One week to go! I will be married in one week! biggrin

I think it is really beginning to sink in! It is really happening!

We leave for Las Vegas in 5 days time and I am so looking forward to my holiday. I haven't had a proper holiday (not counting going up to Scotland for a long weekend) for 5 years now. I really need this break.

B is getting quite excited about the wedding now - he has even printed out the forms we need to fill in for the marriage license! He has worked out how far from the court house the chapel is and has even picked out some music!! Together we decided that the Proclaimers 500 Miles was a good choice - great lyrics and Scottish to boot!

We still haven't decided what to wear on the day. We are going shopping the day before so might see something appropriate then.

<gasp>

He knows...
Mar 5, 2006

We were having a huge row about the party we have planned for when we get back. He has always known about that, only he thought it was just a joint birthday party.

The argument began over the fact that I have organised the whole thing and then just told him what we were going to do - plainly not true as I have involved him in every decision along the way. True I have designed the invites, arranged the function hall, booked the entertainment (we are having a casino) etc - but I have never organised anything without getting his opinion first.

We then got onto the subject of money. erm

Who was paying for this lot. Well - that would be my folks but he didn't know that.

We had more words and it turns out that he doesn't appreciate the way I organise things and almost expect him to go along with it.

Oooops.

Eventually I felt I just had to tell him that I had organised something else and I needed to know whether I had done the right thing. It was like 20 questions getting it out of me but eventually he said the 'marriage' word. He thought that I had only organised to ask him whilst we were in Vegas. I had to tell him that everything was booked and arranged already.

I asked if I had made a big mistake and he said no. I asked him if he wanted to get married and he said yes.

Oh my god.

He said yes.

I am getting married on April 1st - 3 weeks and 5 days! yikes

Oh - I sprung one last surprise on him. I went upstairs and came back down with the wedding rings I bought last week! laugh

Lucky I did - his is too big so I'll have to get it changed.

Crikey. It's all so real! No wonder I am beginning to have anxiety attacks! I got vertigo on Saturday - bought on by stress. Hopefully now he knows it won't be so bad.

Phew.
