Missing Researcher Stumbles from the Wilderness to Post a Journal (Aug 22, 2009)Gawd I miss this place. But I'm soooooo glad there are still so many people here when I pop in. I've been having an affair with Facebook. We're currently experiencing some differences of opinion (I think I should be able to log in, and FB has other ideas), so I've come running back home to cry about it. Well, and like I said, I really miss this place. Anyway, if I ever get to log back in I'd be happy to 'friend' any of my friends here. If you don't know how to look me up drop me an email, the link on my page still works. In other news, life is going on. broe jr started high school this week, SuperChunk starts pre-school on Tuesday. Junior is playing football this year, too, so with the martial arts his schedule has gotten a bit hairy. I'm still working the same goofy, stupid, effed-up schedule I've been on since January (still HATE it). Summer went by too fast. Didn't take a vacation this year. I've worked most of the summer. Mr B is going on vacation next week with my Dad, I get to take the week off work and stay home - which will actually be pretty nice since at least two of those days both kids will be in school. (It'll almost be like being single again ). Dad & Mr B are going to visit the race shops and the Richard Childress Winery in Mooresville, NC. My vacation will be when they come home, we're going to Indianapolis Labor Day weekend just for 2 nights. Really all I want to do is have dinner at Buca de Beppo, but Mr B gets to visit more racing attractions - it's the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.I know this will seem to be totally unrelated to my journal, but it really sucks not to have a close confidante available when you need one. Really I think the reason I logged on tonight is because I can't go to the coffee shop and spend a couple hours talking to the one person I'd really like to, and I needed an outlet. There are some things that email and phone calls just aren't good enough for. I think I'll go follow that thought up with a beer. (Jan 14, 2009) I was going to go put on my fuzzy socks and curl up in bed, but now I feel the need to update you all on the last few months I've been offline. I'll try not to whine too much (but I'll probably make up for the fact that I've been offline for about 4 months). I miss this place. I haven't had the opportunity to write ANYTHING in months, online or off. So, what's been going on? In October junior and I went to Houston for his martial arts tournament. He won a gold in his sparring devision (it was an international competition so he was really excited). I froze to death and had to go buy a jacket at the Mills. We got to have lunch at the Rainforest Cafe (which we hadn't been to in years), but now I have a white hoodie that says "Rebel Renegade Must Stay Paid" in red across the front. Everybody asks me what it says, but I don't know what it means. But the hoodie is nice and comfortable and quite warm, so I've actually gotten a lot of wear out of it. Won't be wearing it this week though - In October we bought some new cookware, too. Ever hear of Saladmaster, Gosho? Mr B and I hosted our first Thanksgiving dinner in November. It wasn't a disaster. The new cookware appears to work. My sister and I divvied up the holidays this year to keep my 88-year-old grandmother from spending a day in the kitchen cooking for a dozen people, but feeling left out grandma cooked on New Year's anyway. Christmas was nice. My mother-in-law bought me a full length pink jersey knit nightgown. Mr B said we should give it back to her and have her return it (because she returns everything we buy her), but I'll probably donate it to Goodwill instead. January first my work schedule changed from CWW (4 days on, 4 days off) to some crazy bullsh!t my "teammates" came up with last year. Work 2, off 2, work 3, off 2, work 2, off 3, and again. One week I'll work Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday, the next week I only work Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I hate it. As an added bonus it came with a 2% pay cut - well, not an actual *cut*, just a different calculation of overtime resulting in a flat 2% loss over the previous year. I HATE it. I miss my 4 days off every week. Last Monday I bought a new car. I traded in my Escape (small SUV) for a Focus (small economical compact). It smells new. I'll get about 10 miles more to the gallon, and it will have a full warranty for the next year and a half or so - the warranty on the Escape had run out in December, I had 102,000 miles on it. It would have been four years old in April). Then last Friday Mr B got notice from his employer that they are going to a 4-day workweek through at least the end of February, in an effort not to go out of business. So he's only getting 32 hours a week. (In the end, though, the new car will work to our advantage in this). I'm sure there's lots more stuff I could bore you with, but now I really do need to go put on my fuzzy socks and call it a night. I'll check in soon - promise! (Just because it doesn't look like I'm here doesn't mean you all can't stop in and say 'hi' once in awhile... you know, just in case). I've tried in the past to keep track of what books I've read (for no real purpose than idle curiosity). I've been largely unsuccessful in maintaining a list because I've stored it on one of my lesser used accounts and don't log in often enough to keep it updated. So I'm going to list them here, since I normally log into this account at least once a day. Mostly I'm just wondering how many books I read in an average year. Like I said, you can unsubscribe now and save yourself the pointless entries that will follow, or you can stay tuned and see if I've read anything worth discussing, or make a suggestion of something you think I might like to read. For the first week of January, I've finished off two books that I started last month: 1 - Vulcan's Forge by Jack DuBrul (disappointing) 2 - The Wisdom of Stones by Greg Matthews (interesting, but not my normal thing) I'm stopping by the bookstore on the way home to pick up the Janet Evanovich that came out today, so that's next on the list. And I've started Brimstone by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Click here to discuss this (82 replies, Latest reply: Aug 7, 2008) Most Recent Conversations
