ABOUT THIS RESEARCHER

Created: 30th September 2000
Rocky Mountain Hi!

That's a terrible pun, I know. But I couldn't resist. Welcome to my little corner of the BBC and make yourself at home.

earth

Allow me to introduce myself. I am a resident of Big Sky Country, or as it is more commonly known, Montana. I've been a part, albeit a small one, of h2g2 since September of 2000. In that time I've met some interesting researchers, including His Holiness Archbishop Marv the Grate, the simply divine Archangel Galaxy Babe, wickedly witty Sporkulious Eglon, and the redoubtable ecotype. A good friend of mine IRL is online as well, Montana Redhead. Hot tip: the best source for intelligent conversation with our nicest researchers is Lil's Atelier. Lovely people, all of them, and well worth a visit. Although he's not a hootooer, my little terry cloth friend monkey has a very nice website. Drop by for a cup of cocoa and a haiku or two!

To give you some idea of what sort of individual you're dealing with, The Onion never fails to make me laugh, I listen to the music of Wilco and I enjoy reading the work of T.C. Boyle. I am a passionate supporter of National Public Radio and PBS. Both are among the few outlets Americans have for intelligent programming and news reporting. Next time pledge week rolls around for either in your area, rather than turning the channel (I know those Lawrence Welk 30th Anniversary Specials can be frightening) please consider a donation. I'm also a fan of the Philadelphia Flyers, but don't hold that against me. I'm well aware they choke in the Stanley Cup Playoffs every year so you needn't rub it in.

Impeach Bush
Dec 20, 2005

George W. Bush has openly admitted to committing a felony--survelliance of American citizens without a warrant. He swore to uphold and defend the Constitution when he took the Oath of Office, and he has violated the Fourth Amendment http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/constitution.billofrights.html. He should be impeached. I encourage all Americans reading this to contact their Senators and Representative and request that they introduce articles of impeachment before Congress. You can find contact information for your members of Congress on these sites:

House of Representatives
http://www.house.gov/

Senate
http://www.senate.gov/

I also encourage you to discuss this with friends, family and neighbors. The more we push, the more our sometimes* spineless elected officials will act.

*I don't know about yours, but mine are truly spineless. One is not the sharpest pencil in the box, one is openly corrupt and one will say whatever you want to hear.

Sweet Potato Oaties
Dec 10, 2004

(For Lentilla smiley )

I made these cookies for the first time last weekend. I was initially suspicious, but I found that sweet potatoes are an excellent addition to baked goods. Like zucchini, they add moisture to any recipe. These cookies are chewy, dense and wonderfully moist.

1/2 cup margarine, butter or vegetable shortening
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
1 and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup sweet potatoes, mashed
1 cup flour
1 and 1/2 cups old fashioned rolled oats
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup chopped pecans

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Mix the dry ingredients together and set aside. Cream the butter with the sugar and add the eggs one at a time, mixing between each addition. Then beat in the vanilla and the sweet potatoes. Slowly add the dry ingredients and stir until well mixed. Fold in the chips and pecans. Drop by tablespoons onto a baking sheet and bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Makes 2 1/2 to 3 dozen.

Gmail!
Jul 7, 2004

Like just about everyone and their dog these days, I have a Gmail account. If you would like one leave me a note with your e-mail addy. Make sure you type _at_ instead of @ and _dot_ instead of . so those nasty spammers out there won't find you. Next time Google kindly gives me some more invites I will send one to you, dear lurker.
