I've got a new car.. Sep 4, 2009
A spanking brand new car..the first in my life at nearly 57..It's a strange feeling.I want to run away and drive up and and down the country in her playing with the CD player and using my MP3 player..but I'm also terrified of damaging her as well and getting weary of finding reasons to be out and about that seem reasonable to him indoors.
Mind if it hadn't been for the Government scrappage scheme we wouldn't have bothered..It seems to have given a fillip to the motor trade for the time being..but the proof will be if as few jobs go as possible within the trade and for those associated within the industry.
My heart is hoping that everyone else will come through this recession fairly intact..but my head knows it's not possible.Selfishly I'm hoping that not too many teaching posts go as the fewer there are the more teachers will be out here in the wild looking for supply work which will be even less because there will be fewer teachers to go sick or training.
My husband who is now part of the civil service is grumbling about the government plans to get the civil service to accept less protection of jobs, wages and pensions.Just as he starts to feel secure job wise too after years of doing agency work for crap pay under awful conditions with no union protection too.
Ah well we are doing better than I hoped at the beginning of the year..
Hope everyone else at hootoo and elsewhere does as well.

Halfway through Jun 8, 2009
Well things have apparently gone from bad to worse for a good many people. Some however have just shot themselves in the snout and are reaping everything they have sown..Yes mixed metaphors but I'm like that. Looking at the MP's expenses row one can only think that maybe we are in this fiscal downturn because they are even worse at fiscal matters than everyone else.Trouble is we end up having to tighten our belts as a consequence.
However I have done really well since January having worked fairly regularly since last November..Can't explain it really..except there are distinct teacher shortages in Maths and IT.Just looking at the ads for teaching posts in the TES shows summat like 15 pages of jobs for those subjects..while arts and the media barely cover one page.
Hope everyone else is managing and that you are all managing to stay afloat.I also hope that things don't worsen in the next 6 months.

Happy New Year with Any Luck Dec 30, 2008
Here's hoping anyway...I hope everyone I'm acquainted with is NOT losing their job or facing fiscal ruination or got negative equity with their home?
If you are, my thoughts are with you and so are my hopes that things won't get as bad as predicted..

Eldest finally abandons us at Christmas Nov 23, 2008
For the first Christmas in 25 years I won't have my daughter at home..
I understand her reasoning..Now she is working in the retail industry she has only two days off for the season..it makes mores sense for her not to try travelling all the way home..
Still she is my baby and I will miss having her home.
