All About ZenMondo

A monk asked Yueh-shan, "What does one
think of while sitting?"
"One thinks of not-thinking," the Master replied.
"How does one think of not-thinking?" the monk asked.
"Without, thinking," the Master said.

JOURNAL
Cleaning up my spot in the Guide
Jul 3, 2009

H2G2 was a good thing once upon a time. Now I have gone other places joined other communities, but I am thinking I will grab my towel and look around this place again. It seems my home spot on here is gathering dust and cobwebs. I have updated the glaring things that were out of date.

If you read down you will see my journal entries dealing with my son's "deafness". Turns out Conor was never really deaf. He is Autistic. The speech delays were not due to fluid in his ears not letting him hear us. Just wanted to clear that up. Conor turns 10 this week and he is a healthy, happy TALKING boy. When he was young and taking those hearing tests he did not turn his head or react not because he could not hear it but because it held no interest for him whatsoever.

So I am here to look for community. Where to start?

Sticking out my thumb,
-- Zen

I'm not REALLY back...
Apr 8, 2005

In a fit of nostalgia, my wife remembered that she HAD an account here many moons. The topic came up while talking about a certain upcoming movie. She could not find her spot, so I knew I had a link to her here, so I logged in and found it for her. Then on a lark, I decided to update My Space a little bit, not having remembered that it uses GuideML... which I have not used in many years. I managed, mostly by looking at what was already there. I might pop into my old haunts, but I do not know if I will stick around... I am an olbie, who signed up and got excited by the guide when it was run by TDV, following a link found when using the babel fish at altavista. AND I remember how the BBC squashed us, when they took over. No swearing, and the worst thing, no external links. EVERYTHING was moderated and censored when one broke the rules. It stopped being fun and began being frustrating. Since then I am gun-shy. Should I return? Has the community survived? or has something new grown in its place and just uses the same name?

Zen don't live here no more
Aug 21, 2002

Its been many many moons since I participated here at h2g2. I just got fed up with all the inteferance from the moderators, and the spirit of the early days being gobbled up by being taken over by huge corp and all its rules. Well anyway, I keep a blog on livejournal now. I would post the URL but I think the moderators will censor it, unless things have changed since I've been here last.
Do they? lets see: http://www.livejournal.com/users/zenmondo

Is it there? Is it gone? Oh well. I'm sure you can figure out the url for livejournal on your own, I'm "ZenMondo" there as well.

Stick your fingers in your ears
Aug 17, 2001

Go ahead, stick your fingers in your ears as far as they can go. If you want to keep your hands free, try putting some cotton in there. This is what the world sounds like to my son, who has fluid behind his eardrums, and we are waiting, waiting, WAITING, for our insurance to approve the surgery he dearly needs (tubes in the ears).

Now imagine trying to learn a new language with this cotton in your ears. This is why Conor, now 2 years and a few months old does not talk yet. His will to communicate is there, but its frustrating to him when he is not understood. He laughs when he is happy, he cries when he is upset, and anything else is anybody's guess. When he gets very frustrated at not being able to communicate, he bites, or bangs his head on the floor. It breaks my heart.

His language consists of gestures and urgings. When he wants something he will take me or my wife by the hand and try to lead us to it. Sometimes he can't have what he wants, and there is no way to explain why we are saying 'No'. Being 2, an tantrum usually ensues. I hope my hugs are enough to console him.

Thanks dear moderator for taking the time to read this. Its nice to know at least one person hears me. But be on the ball, dear moderator I'll have a URL for you to censor just so I know you did!

[URL removed by moderator]

Now I'll know you've been here. smiley

A significant Deficit
May 14, 2001

Those were the words our pediatrician used to describe my son's hearing loss. Conor isn't talking because he has trouble hearing us talk. The good news is that he is going to have tubes put in his ears which I guess will get rid of the fluid back there so he can hear. Between getting insurance to approve the surgery, and scheduling at the hospital, we have quite a wait ahead of us. Conor probably won't be talking by his 2nd birthday in less than two months.
