ABOUT THIS RESEARCHER

Morgan's mutterings...

Okay, a brief resume. Since my birth in 1962 I have been steadily increasing in weight, which I regard as entirely normal. I'm sure the 15 years when my body mass didn't alter was a statistical blip.

I spend my time playing folk and blues guitar to enormous and deleriously happy audiences, running a multinational business empire, fighting off advances from beautiful women, and lying through my teeth to people that I don't consider ready for the awful truth.

Despite a happy and stable childhood I turned out reasonably normal in the face of my own considerable efforts to be a rebel and buck the system. (That's "Buck" the system, yes. Capital "B".) Sadly my long hair and headbanging habit didn't survive the transition to salary-earning adulthood.

I was introduced to h2g2 by my oldest friend, BluesSlider, who has been thrown out of some of the best pubs and clubs in the land, and only survives in here by hiding under his alias. I am seldom happier than when sitting playing guitar with this man with a tankard of beer or glass of whisky to hand.

And I think that's quite enough for now.

Stap me vitals...

By merest chance, I happened to mention h2g2 on a blog post elsewhere in the continuum and that prompted me to visit. What do I find but that it is a year and a day since my last visit. Call me a winter hardy annual if you will.

I must get a grip.
Dec 14, 2008

OK, so I'm not hanging around the place like I used to. But having just skimmed through my entire journal list, I see that in the old days I was happily having a pop at public transport, government responses to foot & mouth, the real meaning of the EU... but the last four entries to my name have been either about drinking (OK, I can see that) or the two posts to the Strictly Come Dancing forum.

For shame.

On being drunk
Aug 27, 2008

Not clever, I grant you. But fun, sometimes.

Depends on how drunk, of course. There's a fine line between 'just nicely' and 'thrown up over the carpet all right officer I'll come quietly'.

Lordie...

Is it really three years (nearly) since I've been here? Tempus fugit, innit?

No gems of philosophic wisdom tonight - just leaving a footprint in Auntie's cyber-sand.

Malta
Oct 25, 2005

Leaving tomorrow for our second holiday on this fascinating Mediterranean island. Everyone who was anyone in the 'invade and colonise' line has been through the place, leaving something behind; it's a fascinating mix of cultures. The Maltese language has Semitic roots, overlaid with much Arabic and Italian influence. The Maltese driver has lunatic roots, overlaid with much Italian influence. The island having been a British Protectorate, the theory is that one drives on the left, but this is honoured more in the breach than th'observance, frankly. Local wisdom is that one drives in the shade wherever possible, and if that disconcerts the oncoming Brit visitor, well, it's nothing personal. Road signs are misleading on the rare occasions they're there at all, roundabouts are just a way of using up concrete, and traffic lights can be out of action for weeks before repair. Nobody takes much notice of them, you see, so why bother rushing to do something about them?

The Maltese people are friendly and courteous, although two locals can exchange comments about the weather and sound as if a major ruck is about to kick off. The local brewery turns out worthy products, the sea is startlingly blue, the old buildings unearthly beautiful and Grand Harbour by night one of the most breathtaking views anywhere. I fell in love with the whole deal on our first visit last year, and am very glad to be going back.

And this time I'm ready for the driving. Bring it on...
