ABOUT THIS RESEARCHER

Created: 13th February 2009
Arrival Lounge

A little intro - found my way here by way of the improbability drive, courtesy of the art of Zen Navigation. Literally, a link from the BBC website.

I was surprised to say the least to find myself here, but surprised in a pleasant sort of way.
Lucky I always carry a towel.

Anyway it's quite a surprise to find this community being here without me knowing about it, in another dimension as it were. So I'm VERY pleased to meet you and hope we can get to know each other well.

OUR FOUNDER DOUGLAS ADAMS-looking very hunky
Our founder, Douglas Adams, with the Planet Earth in the Background.

I have led a long and mostly harmless life; I fully intend to live a lot longer yet. I've done far too many things without a great deal of evidence to show for it. I'm interested in people, I do try not to be critical, but can't stop myself asking impertinent questions.

I'm restless, I get easily bored, I've read lots of books and watched lots of films and then forgotten them. I don't do favourite lists as I have difficulty in making choices, I want them all...

I use three dots at the end of sentences far too much, this is because I forget what I was going to ...
Things I am useless at, understanding why Americans don't all get irony, being PC, Geography, knowing where to stop.
The answer to everything in my life has always and will always be

At last I may try some relaxation

Eventually seem to have convinced others that my electricity supply has a problem which originates outside of my house. The trouble with Spanish houses is that they exist in communities, with shared stuff like outdoor lights, and in my case a shared earth *spike* ( literally a spike) between mine and about 10 more houses. So, somewhere along the line a fault has occurred and I get nearly 400volts of power entering my wires every evening. yikes is not the word. So, my circuit breakers all trip and I am powerless. Such a word, no pun intended. Of course, in the day when the chaps from the power company came to test, my system was perfect and they gave me looks like this bigeyes bigeyes I could see them thinking 'mujer inglesa estúpida'

In the first instance we blamed my old refrigerator, and since it was probably very inefficient I have sent it to the recycling depot and ordered a new one. So as well as in the dark, I am without a means to keep my food fresh. It has really brought it home to me how life has changed and we have become so complacent over even a simple thing like not having melted butter due to refrigeration. ( Yesterday the temperature was over 30 degrees C in the daytime and about 25 at night.) Today is cooler, only 25 C, and a pleasant breeze from the sea.

I have ordered my new fridge, which is being delivered on Friday, and on Thursday the electricians are going to install my very own, personal Earth Spike, in my garden. Such a thing! I am impressed. I will take some photos to show you <haha>.

So now I have written this down and there is nothing else to do -so I can go and relax - I have been either waiting in for various electricians, who have been unable to locate this source of external volts, or out looking at fridges.

I might even start reading a new book.

...oh yes, I have all the vocabulary needed now for discussing electrical problems in Spanish. I struggled for ages with the word 'wire' laugh it's 'cable' pronounced cah -bleh.

At last I make 42
Sep 15, 2009

Well my user number does, at least!! smiley Thanks to Julzes! eureka Hurrah!

-10+(7-sqrt(9))*(0+8+0+5)

(thank you again Julzes) My brain does spelling without any problem and it remembers all sorts of stuff about ordinary things, but it just runs and hides in a corner where numbers are concerned. I can actually feel it cringing in pain. Poor brain cells.

time for a little nap

Butterfly feeling
May 7, 2009

Oh, how strange, I haven't had this feeling for years. It's like waiting for an exam result. Why? Well I just put my first entry into Peer Review. I think I need some coffee now.
