An excellent article for an excellent album, however, I have heard it said that the original inspiration for the whole 'running one song into another' thing, came from the Beach Boys Pet Sounds album which was released a while before SPLHCB.
On a personal note, I have to thank Julian Lennon for giving his dad the inspiration for the song that has been sung at me every day since I was born, before the singer then asks, "Have you ever heard that song before?"
Only kidding, I love it really.
