Melissa's Underworld

Melissa's Underworld - C Barry 2003

liberally sprinkle these love hearts

Degrading my ways I dont know where to turn
She plays the toy guitar ever so gently
She strums another chord, the colours seem to reel
I stand beside the cage and look into the mirror

The mirror reveals exactly what will be told
I see a flash of blinding white whilst everything is vaporised
I can't help but scream but I'm fascinated by the glow
The world seems so surreal inside her underworld

The cornea defecting grey her eyes are cobalt blue
Her hair the colour of corn a new warning another dawn
Lifeless and listless upon our run
All these gentle gauntlet blockades

The skies form mediocre red
And alibi storms are in my head
Hypocrisy is determined to undermine
Generosity greed is ripe
Life is such a haze living inside this heartless cage

Deflecting the means as they shadow over shadow
Stolen her means to see into the world
Stolen her dreams & crushed them underfoot
It's personally deliberate our own other-world
Grey hearts and thoughts gold mine I see the world in black too

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is one of my better songs I have wrote.

It's about apocalyptic dreams, most notably those of my close friend and myself.
In my dream I saw this young girl playing an toy acoustic by my feet. I was standing next to my chinchilla's cage in my sisters room. She started to cry so I asked what was wrong, she then said I hit her like a freight train. She was playing Caribou of all things and singing in this really deathly sweet voice. She had blonde hair and really soulful blue eyes. The only other description I can give of the eyes was like a murky grey puddle with a blue abient light at the bottom - like concave raindrops when they catch the light. This dream was very lucid, I knew I was dreaming. The girl reminded me of a younger version of my friend {mentioned above}. Anyway I look in the mirror and see this flash and then I'm captivated by this beautiful blast of white. The whole room is totally vaporised except for myself and the girl. All that is left is this girl and I
Her eyes look sadder then before.

The song itself is in 12/8, and half a step down. It
uses some nice delay effects and an old panned phaser through a
steel stringed acoustic on two channels. I recorded it on eight track a while ago, Sim and I over dubbed some really nice bass parts - it sounds fantastic.
