Seemingly Pointless Advertising
Post: 1

Certain ads seem somewhat pointless.

Example: "If you leave in England, and want to wish someone in Australia a Happy Birthday today, why not use the phone?" As opposed, presumably, to a carrier pigeon, guided missile or message in a bottle. Are there people out there with a phone standing idle in the corner because they've missed the ads?

In common with other H2G2ers, I too find pop-ups on the internet extremely irritating. They appear to be the electronic equivalent of the inserts in the Sunday papers that skitter across the newsagents' floor as you pick up your paper.

Seemingly Pointless Advertising

The pointless ad that's getting to me most at the moment is the one pointing out that the Royal Mail is responsible for delivering loads of stuff to us from the financial services industry. In effect, they're advertising the fact that they deliver unwanted, otherwise known as junk, mail. steam

The Royal Mail ad shows a pile of Amazon.co.uk boxes; I had an empty one in the other room (from my copy of "The Salmon of Doubt"), so I checked - it came by private courier. smiley
