To make your nails half one color and half another color, paint your nails one color entirely. Then, when that color is completely dry, put masking tape over the parts of your nail that you want to remain that color and paint the rest with a diferent color! It's time consuming but impresive! (PS: The second color may take several coats.)

sneaky!  But doesn't that make the polish thicker on one side than the other?

Yes, I suppose it would! But I bite my fingernails, so I've only ever done this on my toenails and nobody noticed.
