Hi Candi Nook!
One word - bravo!
This is excellent! It's *so* nice to read a really good local guide entry - generally they're badly written, poorly research and vaguely insulting to the inhabitants. But this is really good. An example of best practice, in fact.
People who want to write about their home town should be made to read this first.
Hie this to the edited guide ASASWPPB! (as soon as a scout with picks passes by....)
Otto.

Thanks!
I'm so pleased - I've been here since November last year but never got round to doing a proper article before because I feared I wouldn't be able to make a good job of it! Glad to get such positive feedback

Posted Jul 16, 2002 by Ausnahmsweise, wie üblich (Consistently inconsistent) Hi,
Excellent.
I just have a couple of questions.
"Services on the regular Manchester-Bradford-Leeds-York route" Would that be train service? I assume it is, because the next paragraph is about buses.
Why is there a new, deep lock if the tunnel is blocked and commercial canal traffic ened in 1969? Is it for recreational boaters?

Posted Jul 16, 2002 by Dr Zen now with PhD Funding. I have to agree! this is a great entry and you've certianly made a good job of it, apart from the two questions above I haven't got anything to add other that , I agree most entries on home towns do seem to go along the lines of "XXXXdale is the most boring place in the Universe," and this is an textbook example of how it should be written. I'm afraid I can't pick it atm because it's not been in PR for a week.

Posted Jul 16, 2002 by Candi Thanks for pointing the train thing out - I have now amended that.
About the canal being filled in - I have stated what happened about that at the end of the history section:
"in 1996, the Tuel Tunnel was re-opened linking the Calder and Hebble Navigation back to the Rochdale Canal."
Is this not clear enough? If you think I could word it better, let me know.
Glad you both liked it, anyway

Sorry - just realised you asked about recreational boating - I'll put something in to clarify that it is.

Posted Jul 25, 2002 by BBC auto-messages Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
