Posted Jul 31, 2002 by Hatty yes, maungey is the Yorkshire equivalent, and is just as versatile, ie someone can have a maunge on. I know it's used around Halifax and Hebden Bridge but it sounds as if it could be East Coast as well?
I think though maungey may be a bit sulkier than mardy, mardy being a bit more "contrary" or obtuse (in Shropshire, anyway). Both involve soggy bits though, and seem to apply to small children, teenagers and men. Neither word was used on the Isle of Wight intil 14 months ago...
Does anyone eat "spogs" anymore?
