the best camp site has to be ullapool (north west Scotland). the facilities are pretty basic, loos a bit scabby and rundown but it is well worth it for the view. You can camp right on the edge of the loch (unusual in itself as in most camp sites these pitches are usually reserved for caravans) and watch the incoming boats and ferries. Just beware of the rent-man who 'knocks' on your tent around 7.00 to collect the site fee.....or just for an early morning chat!
As for the area, there is plenty to see and do...try Corrieshalloch Gorge where a deceptively non-scary (but wobbly) looking bridge crosses a long, deep box canyon (originally created by glacial meltwaters) with the magnificent Falls of Measach at one end. There are plenty of hills to climb or beautiful white sandy beaches to chill out on with a book which you can often get all to yourself. . Ullapool itself is the largest village on the north-western seaboard and a western Isles ferry port.During late summer Russian fishing boats are frequent visitors and make for interesting conversations in the pub! Its a must see place
