To scout or submit?

Can I put this question from the summary to the group:

"One question with this process is how entries would get moved out of the review forum (once the updates have been settled). Would it be picked by a Scout, or sent off by the original updater?"

I think we'd have to reconsider the role of the updater. Originally the role was going to be two-fold: to work on updates and to pick updates. It appears we're moving towards a more Scout-like role, nurturing and picking updates to go up on the front page (five a week, say). But, we still need these updates to come in via some sort of subbing process (let's say that the Updaters do this too).

How about that?

So, to summarise, any member of h2g2 can update a version of an edited entry, which they then submit to the new review forum. Volunteers then pick a certain number of updates to 'go live', the updates are then subbed (perhaps using the comparison tools), before being checked by the in-house team.

So do we use the existing scouts to do the scouting and subs to do the subbing, or create a new volunteer group to do one of, or both, of the jobs?

To keep it simple we could combine the roles into one new volunteer scheme.

Am about to dash off - more discussion tomorrow!

I had kind of envisioned that Updaters will be both Scout and Sub in one. And I reckon it would be really fab to be able to Sub the entry you Scouted (more chance of somebody finding an entry that they're going to be interested in).

Well, it looks like that's a happy consensus then. I had thought some people might suggest adding the jobs on to the existing volunteers.

Perhaps that's something we should consider for Peer Review then? Just for those Researchers who are both Scouts *and* Sub-eds, of course.

Okay, but couldn't updaters volunteer fresh, without having been a sub and a scout?

Certainly. It was just an off-topic thought about the Peer Review system.
