I looked for an entry on Georgette ages ago, and now here it is! My mother has got most of her books, and I started reading them at an early age - in the beginning mostly fascinated by the romance.... Now though - having reread them countless times as sheer escapism - I appreciate more her masterly humourus character drawing. Some of her secondary characters (in Friday's Child, for instance) are simply hilarious - and very accurately drawn! All in all highly enjoyable books...smiley

My pleasure!

I love the secondary characters too; I have just re-read Venetia, (wonderful comfort reading), and thoroughly enjoyed Mrs Hendred. Venetia is one of the few literary heroines I envy, mainly because Demerel is one of the few literary heros I fancy - he is funny, sexy, fabulous in bed, good looking, and well read. What more could a girl ever ask for?

Why aren't real men like Damerel?? huh

My sister & I used to argue about which one of us would get to call our first son that name - though I don't think either of us felt particularly motherly towards him! winkeye

Oh, I found one! (I told him I would do outragious things for wordplay, and a couple of days later he asked me what the motto of the amateur ice-hockey league would be - the answer? - 'will puck for funs' - quite!) Unfortunately he is already booked by someone else, so all I can do is sigh wistfully. The pangs of unrequitable love. wah
