Peer Review: A756722 - Rephlex

Entry: Rephlex - A756722
Author: Researcher 195148 - U195148

Rephlex is an independent record label started in 1991 by Grant Wilson-Claridge and Richard D James (Aphex Twin). Originally based in Cornwall, operations soon moved to London. Music on the label ranges from electronic, classical, ambient, electro, house, soul, drum & bass, hip hop, techno, hardcore and r&b, but it all falls under the banner of Braindance. They have over 40 artists including AFX, Cylob, Astrobotnia, Ovuca, Bogdan Raczynski, Global Goon, DMX Krew, The Gentle People, Bochum Welt and Mike Dred, and have introduced such influential artists as Squarepusher, Leila and Luke Vibert onto the world scene. They have also delved into the vaults to bring out classic and unreleased tracks by 808 State, Stakker, Future Sound, Baby Ford and Caustic Window. Such a huge roster of artists means that every week, somewhere on Earth, Braindance, Rephlex-style, can be experienced at a club, bar or rave. Described by NME as "the coolest label on Earth", Rephlex has done much to transform and influence contemporary music, and has done it with a smile.

Could do with a few <P>aragraph tags (or line breaks if you're in text mode) to add structure.

Perhaps you can dig out some interesting story (their greatest success, their biggest failure, ...) to counterbalance the dry facts?

I'd rename the title "Rephlex Records" or "Rephlex - The Record Label" just to make it clear.

I like it, but I would love to see more details of the artists themselves rather than a rostrum of who is on the label.

hi. yes i wanted to add links to the artists and then write something about them but i didn't know how to. perhaps you can advise?

i didn't call it 'Rephlex Records' simply cos that's not what it's called and they get annoyed, but i don't know of anything else called Rephlex so i don't think there could be any confusion smiley

good idea. i'll give it some thought ( i kept it short cos i wasn't sure how long entries should be, so inevitably it was just the facts that remained. but yes it is a bit dry) smiley

Hi there,

If you find the URL of the artist you want to link to in your entry, cut and paste it into these 'ere GuideML tags (in between the speech marks): <LINK HREF="YOUR URL">Aphex twin or whoever</LINK>. This should do it. Your entry is a good intro to the label but would benefit with more information. A bit of writing about the artists would really boost this entry.

Check out the GuideML Clinic for help with GuideML queries: A187229.

All the best.smiley

Hi, cool entry.

Maybe you'd want to write something in your 'personal space' so that people can contact you there...

I agree that the Entry should be retitled to 'Rephlex - The Record Label' for clarity.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

A few tales of Aphex's insane stunts would be good, such as the one about him "borrowing" the warp tour coach at the sonar festival in Spain last year and nearly running over loads of people trying to drive it away before the driver caught him. Got that one from the horses mouth smiley
