I came across the following and rather curious letter "stamp label" being sold on a website. The nominal face value was 43p - but it appears that you needed a normal stamp as well to ensure delivery.

I have not heard of these before and do not know the background.

This example (the only one I have seen) was posted in North Devon in October 1997.
