| Posted Jun 11, 2002 by Orcus Just wondering what they might be then
Mercury, Venus, (Earth -if that's included), Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.
Surely Uranus, Neptune and Pluto were discovered far too recently to be included in the *traditional* seven planets.
The seven planets just sounds a bit too contrived for my liking I'm afraid.
Top article though A mere tiny little quibble above really

Posted Jan 11, 2008 by Gnomon [See A60420098 for details of new sign-in system] Although the seven planets may "sound too contrived" for your liking, Orcus, it is correct. The traditional seven planets, as Amy points out, are:
Sun, Moon, Mars, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn.

Posted Aug 28, 2008 by JohnRicardo No, the earth isn't included. The seven planets are those that the ancients could see when they looked up into the sky from the earth. the moon is the nearest, then Mercury,Venus,Sun,Mars,Jupiter,Saturn Of course there are more, but the point is these are the ones visible with the naked eye.

Posted Aug 28, 2008 by Orcus I believe my question was perfectly adequately answered in post 2.

Posted Aug 28, 2008 by Orcus The article also seems to have been amended from the sentence that initially confused me. I hadn't considered that the ancients might have regarded the Sun and Moon as planets.
I suspect the work of a Curator
