Buddy Holly is pretty much a saint here in Texas. People recall that he once opened once for Elvis in downtown Houston, the concert of all time for some. I was growing up in Oklahoma at the time, the closest I got was the Kingsmen opening for Roger Miller at an amusement park - 50 cents, a pretty good deal. Or, many years later, Bonnie Raitt for $5 in Houston - she was "between careers".

In recent years, the best I've seen was the Bottle Rockets opening for Todd Snider at a Houston rock club. Not all that famous, maybe, but the Houston Press, a news & entertainment weekly, picked it as the concert of the year. I have to agree.

And speaking of the Hollies ... I was listeing to an old greatest hits tape and the last song was "Long Tall Woman in a Black Dress". I wondered how they got Creedence Clearwater to do a guest track on a greatest hits album. ok

Yup. Buddy Holly wrote some inspiring songs, as did Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins, Hank Williams, etc. Lots of pre-Beatle heroes. cool
