Posted Feb 1, 2002 by Uncle Ghengis Also, there exists a strange breed of Volkswagen enthusiast who build VW trikes. Being rear-engined, it is a (realatively) simple matter to cut the front off the car and replace it with a set of motorbike forks. Some versions retain some of the Beetle bodywork (the rear arches, back part of the roof and the bench seat perhaps), while others end up being more like a Beach-Buggy at the back.
I used to know a couple of guys who drove these things - and they used them in all weathers too. (Completely mad of course, but a great way of attracting attention - if that's what you want.)

Posted Feb 6, 2002 by Uncle Ghengis I don't know much about how to build a trike. But there are plenty of good VW forums on the net. Try these for starters... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/edubs/ http://www.volkszone.com/

Posted Aug 7, 2006 by thirdwheelgypsy a more popular way of building trikes in the recent past is using the engine and rear axle from the original reliant, you can then get a written off motorbike, use the headstock and forks, front brakes etc. if you use 75% of one of the vehicles it does not need to go on a Q plate and you can retaining your original registration. Cheers Gypsy
