http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A648335

This piece of writing is about how to make contact again with the folks you have lost touch with in your passage through life. I put it in the writing workshop yesterday but didn't get any comments back so I thought I would post it here. This decision was based on a comment in another thread by Bossel who noted that it was rare for anyone to comment on articles posted there.

I hope I have not offended anyone by the possibly premature posting here, I would welcome any comments/criticisms etc that you may have.

cheers
kelli

This entry looks pretty good to me. It is in a very casual style, but I don't see any reason why that should be changed. You seem to have avoided all reference to "I" and "me". There are one or two references to "We" and "us". You might want to change them to "most people". It's a good entry and deserves to be in the guide.

Thanks Gnomon. I am glad you liked it, despite the casual style (a bit like the author).

I have changed 'most of us are ex-directory' to 'most people are ...' but couldn't spot any more. Do you think it is too anglo-centric? I tried to include things that were relevant in any country but there may be other methods available elsewhere that we don't see here.

Hi there,

I can't think of much to improve this one smiley

However, I did try out the link and it didn't seem to work, this could just be a slow server or the fact that I tried it out at the wrong time.

Could you check it yourself to see if it's working ok?

cheers

Thanks Whisky biggrin !

I tested the link and it did work, I know from experience messing about on the site (I have spent ages there noseying around in the lives of everyone I went to school with) that sometimes their server is really slow, I don't know if they run back-ups at odd times or just get congested. I'd be grateful if you could try it again to see if it still doesn't work for you now a bit of time has elapsed cheers .

k

BTW do you think I should change the name to Finding Old Friends so it is a bit clearer what it is about?

Ok, I tried it again, and it seemed to work this time biggrin

I tend to agree with your idea of changing the name 'Finding Old Friends' would seem a little more logical.

cheers

Right, I have changed the name. That doesn't mean I'll end up in the sin bin for having the wrong subject line does it? winkeye

You won't end up in the sin bin for that. Peer Review items often get their name changed. In fact, many people start out with an outrageous title just to get noticed, knowing they will change it to something more reasonable later.

What now? Do I just sort of wait to hear if anything will happen to it (the impression I got from the Peer Review page) or do I have to do anything else?

I like it! Especially since (via the website you mentioned) I'm now going to attend a 20 year reunion, and we're working on a 35 year reunion for Junior School!

Kelli, if you're happy with the entry, you don't have to do anything else at all. If a passing scout likes it, they will recommend it. The h2g2 editors then make the decisition to pick it and you will get a message here saying it has been recommended. Once you get that message it is out of your hands. A copy is taken at that point and sent off to a subeditor. Eventually, it will be turned into an Edited Entry and will be announced on the front page.

Note that scouts are not allowed to recommend an entry until it has been at least a week in Peer Review, so it won't be picked for at least the next few days.

This thread has been moved out of the Peer Review Forum because your entry has now been recommended for the Edited Guide.

You can find out what will happen to your entry here: http://www.h2g2.com/SubEditors-Process

Congratulations!

This has been moved - thanks for the advice though Gnomon.

Well done - I thought it was good, and so did the editors. If you need to make any changes, you need to make them quickly, because as soon as the sub-eds get hold of it, it's their editing and not yours (although your original still stays in one piece).
