A quick note about "The Dutchman."

"The Flying Dutchman" is the name that most people give to the spectral ship of Captain Vanderdecken. However, people who have actually studied the legend now say that the term "Flying Dutchman" actually refers to Vanderdecken himself, not the ship, and that the vessel's true name is lost to history.

I don't know which, if any, explanation is correct, but being a former Navy man, I don't question such "Sea Stories."
