Sone disadvantages
Post: 1
Posted Feb 25, 2008 by Vestboy
I came across another story about a T-loop which may make people think carefully. A group of hard of hearing and deaf people were meeting in an upper room of a block and one person said she wanted to have a cup of tea.
The kitchen was on the floor below and she went down to put the kettle on. As people sometimes do the conversation turned to the person who had just left the room and some less than kind things were said. When she came back in it was clear from her face that she wasn't happy and at that point they realised that the loop works "up and down" as well as side to side! She'd heard every word they said.

Another disadvantage is to do with poor use of microphones and people not realising what a loop system is. I was at a public meeting where I knew one friend with a hearing aid. The speaker insisted on not using the microphone as he had a loud voice. This in fact totally left out people with hearing aids as they would have heard nothing that did not go through the mike.

I knew of a bishop who would inadvertently rub the microphone on the bristles on his chin when pondering a question. People with hearing aids were leaping all over the place at the horrendous noise he created.
