Just thought I'd mention that I had loads of ackee and saltfish out in Jamaica a couple of weeks ago and it's lovely stuff. Shame you don't seem to be able to get it over here  . I'll have to look out for the canned stuff.
According to that fount of all knowledge (second only to H2G2 obviously!) the Rough Guide trying to peel ackees before they're ripe leads to the release of toxic gas! 
Not a fruit to mess with obviously..
