Posted May 18, 2001 by Uber Phreak Murphys first law says " Anything that can go wrong will" His second law says "Every thin will take longer than planned to get done, even taking Murphy"s First Law into account" It is not Hofstaders law.

The correct, original Murphy's Law reads: "If there are two or more ways to do something, and one of those ways can result in a catastrophe, then someone will do it." What you are referring to is "Finagle's Law", which is different. [source: The Jargon Lexicon]
Hofstadter's Law is either "It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstader's law", or alernatively "Everything takes twice as long as you expect, even if you take into account Hofstader's Law." [source: "Godel, Escher, Bach" by Douglas Hofstadter] [source 2: Donald Norman quoting Hofstadter in "Things That Make us Smart."]

Posted May 19, 2001 by Captain Kebab O'Toole's Law states that Murphy was an optimist, although from what you say it sounds as though it was Finagle who was the optimist. [Source: my boss]
NB, my boss has been known to make stuff up. This sounds like one of those things, but I find it's best to keep him sweet. Keep your boss sweet. Captain Kebab's Law.

Posted May 20, 2001 by Captain Kebab I'd have thought that if it was the hash then the law would say 'If something can go wrong it will go wrong but, hey, it doesn't really matter, relax!'

Posted Jul 18, 2001 by Captain Kebab In view of that I think it best not to ask how to prepare O'Toole Slaw.
