A22548882 has been hidden. why, and why was I not informed via email?

Because in BBC h2g2 terms that article is owned by the editor (Jim's wife in this case) and not you (the original author). There was a thread some years back (when a lot of other EG articles got hidden) saying that the original authors ought to be informed.
