I am currently writing the biography of my father-in-law, regarding action on H.M.S.Carinthia, H.M.S.Tartar and other Royal Navy and Combined Operations service including the Sicily Landings. If you have any additional information on the above or on Lofoten Island Raid please post. Tks Gerry

Hi Gerry,

Welcome to h2g2, I have left a message in your Personal Space, hopefully it will help you find your way around our site smiley

We have a number of Edited Guide Entries about the Meditteranean, not all of them about the war, however I have found something you might find interesting;

A3031949 = Operation Mincemeat

And, of course, HRH Prince Philip was also in the Meditteranean Fleet A56992738

You could also put your question into Askh2g2 most Researchers are subscribed to that forum ok

regards,

lil xx

Gerry,

You might also find these stories interesting:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/ww2peopleswar/categories/c54599/index.shtml

There are 16 pages giving first-hand experiences of life at sea during the war, maybe the ships you are asking about are recorded among them.

Hi Gerry,

Just keep to the writing-guidelines and you won't go wrong. Take your time ok

Btw, my tag is lil. This is the silly season in Hootoo, some change their tag into anagrams, this time I am using a foreign language (Spanish) instead <winkeye.

All will return to 'normal?' at the end of the month whistle

lil - what is 'normal'?

'The Man who Never Was' is an absolutely fascinating story. The film is OK, bu the original text is gripping. I forget the author now, but if you cannot find it online let me know, my Gran has my copy.

lil, that is quite a good idea. I am not an expert, but I was fascinated by the story when I was younger,and researching further might be quite fun. Will have to wait till I am off work for a bit though. As I recall I was originally drawn into the story by a Reader's Digest condensed book my Nan had, which purported to be written by one of the original conspirators. It inspired me to track down the full text, which being of an organised mind (organised, not logical, and only where books are concerned) I also left at Nan's. So next time I visit the sprightly 87 year old (sorry, came over a bit Daily Mail there), I will look into it. Thanks for the idea. DRTsmiley
