One famous (well I've heard of it) ambigram was by a bloke called W.H.Hill, who actually used it as his signature. (it was a very curly sig, which is why my attempt to draw it is rather poor, but please use your imagination)

I know. The site really messes it up. The main point is that the W. upside-down is the ill.
