<< My brief encounter with LeKZ

An apology
Post: 181
Posted Jun 19, 2001 by GTBacchus
I would like to apologize here to Colonel Sellers and to the community for post number 63 in this thread in which I completely unnecessarily disparaged his actions as a Scout. My words were ill-considered and written in frustration.

Any problem that I have with Colonel Sellers is not anybody else's business and I never should have mentioned his name in a discussion that he wasn't even reading. I am ashamed of what I wrote and I won't do it again. I hereby retract said post. sadface

An incredibly silly move
Post: 182

It looks like I am about to make an incredibly silly move. If anyone can find the majority of the original article, I am silly enough to try and bring some editing and work to this forum to try and actually get a decent article on intelligence. When someone lets me know where I can get at most of the early work by the original author, I will happily take over trying to bring this entry from it's previous controversial position to a more balanced and probably bigger review covering a reasonable fraction of the stuff covered in this thread about intelligence. I will welcome the sort of comments that barton and the other geniuses were coming out with, as having an iq in the 120's I know exactly what they are talking about re all of the bigotry.
looking forward to being vilified or preferably not, I also have to say that I am not sorry to see the original author go. he was quite blatantly saying to the reviewers "I think you are talking rubbish, but I can't be bothered to do the work to prove it". I won't make the same mistake.
So some brave soul find me enough of the original article to work on that I don't have to start from scratch, and off we go again. hopefully constructively.
magic from the muse of technomages.

The majority of the original article can be found in the thread where Arpeggio provided her detailed commentary on grammar and content. You can strip out her suggestions and have nearly all that Playboy Reporter had put into the article.

I wish you well in this even though I tend to agree that there is little likelihood (I wish no one had ever said, 'impossible.') that you will ever statisfy everyone in Peer Revue on a general article of reasonable length dealing with the topic of 'Inteligence.'

Please be so kind as to make me say that I was wrong.

I am no expert in this area, but I will be happy to provide what help I can so long as it is welcome, when/if it is not welcome, I invite you here and now or at any time to tell me so.

Barton

Xyroth - you may find that leaning on some or all of the following entries helps avoid reinventing the wheel... smiley

Just want to mark this posting and also say that I find this an interesting example of the dynamism of virtual communities documented historically - except that I'm still not sure that Playboy Reporter really left for the reasons people here seem to assume he left for. Assumptions are usually wrong, because in all events there are a huge variety of factors at work, some known but most unknown.

Xyroth - good luck to you. In fact, Playboy's article can be edited down to 'On-line IQ Tests' - with a bit of lead-in to the article and a disclaimer as to the validity of these tests, you should have a pretty good article.

If you'd like to write something else about human sapience, I'd start from scratch and write about what interests you in that field. Don't bite off more than you can chew; pick a good topic in the field of intelligence research and cover that subject as well as you're able.

Looking forward to what you come up with!

- Lentilla

having got together the stuff relating to inteligence up until the point when playboy picked up his user id and went home, and everything deteriorated into a slanging match against the genuises, I find that I have over 86K of data to read through and organise before I start. This may take a few days, so bear with me, and I will see what I can get done. magic

well, I was daft enough to start it, and the first set of pages are ready for comments. They are only the first draft, and will no doubt be revised as the rest of the project takes shape. I have set up a forum on my user page over on http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F52...thread=123587&post=1083329#p1083329 where comments and update information can go. please drop by and comment, as this is a non-trivial problem, and I need all the help I can get.
I have also submitted it to be a university project. news on that pending a reply from TPTB.

Well, I have started a university project over on http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A584525 which now has a set of entries in need of feedback. Any help here would be appreciated, and please speak up as to which bits you contributed to, as giving credit in the right places is proving to be very difficult. I am also finding myself a little short on content for a few of the entries, so please give generously smiley

Oh, btw, Playboy Reporter has re-entered the building. For some reason Mark failed to be his normal helpful self in such situations... shrug

surely if you are goint to permenantly stuff it somewhere, then the intelligence project index at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A584525
is a better location.

The stuff to do with lekz, while important, is less important than the commentary on intelligence.
