It's Paul Merton, not Merson, who is a regular member of the Have I Got News For You panel. Paul Merson was the footballer who admitted to drink, drug and gambling problems.

Well, it wasn't me. I was rushed editing these, and left that pretty much as-is. Ah, well. Someone should be along shortly to fix it, or I'll send off a e-mail to the PTB.
