Spud-u-like
Post: 1
Posted Aug 15, 2000 by Hoversnail

Spud-u-like was a chain of small restaurants selling baked potatoes as fast food. There used to be loads of them, (this is probably a British thing). Much like any hamburger place except they sold only spuds with, of course, any filling you could ever imagine putting in one, (-any spud-you-like). Untill recently there was still a branch on Pembridge Road in Notting Hill where I used to go and have a chilli and cheese potato after college. It has now mutated into a Starbuck's coffee house, (as have many things).

Who remembers Spud-u-like, and are there any branches left?

I can go back even further. The ex-boxer Billy Walker had a chain called Billy Walker's Baked Potato which I thought were even better. Oliver's sandwich bars here in Hong Kong have a good baked potato counter. I like the ones you get from portable ovens in market places in England.
