don't forget "the animated adventures" which had good plots but often bad implimentations, and all of the books.

the original series isn't a spin-off, that's what begin star trek. everything else are spin-offs.

but the animated adventures and the books are spin-offs from the original series. the books specifically (along with the revenue from reruns) is what got there to be a next generation.
