Nostalgia in Swedish
Post: 1

For some reason, I was recently reminded of 'Ansiktsburk' (face jar - and no, it doesn't make any sense in Swedish either, and that's the whole point).

Several years ago, imaginative Swedes starting 'translating' Turkish pop songs into nonsense Swedish - they'd just go for any word that sounded reasonably like the Turkish lyrics. And the results were quite hilarious!rofl

Apologies to those of you who don't understand Swedish - I assume the following youtube videos won't make any sense at all - in fact, even less than intended...tongueout

Ansiktsburk (face jar):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=an_8U-GDgwc&NR=1

Hatten är din! (the hat is yours!):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=an_8U-GDgwc&NR=1

Badrum, badrum (bathroom, bathroom):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=an_8U-GDgwc&NR=1

And not only Turkish pop suffered this fate - here's a 'translation' of Kate Ryan's Desenchanté.

Det sa' Jonte (Jonte said so):

Can't help you with the Swedish ones, but here's a well-known translation of English into, er, English:

Those Maxwell ones are great!biggrin

When 'Yes sir, I can boogie' was popular my brother and I liked to sing along. He was too young to know any English but had learnt to read Swedish at a very early age, so I tried to write the lyrics donw 'phonetically'.

*rummages in drawer*

I can't find the notebook right now (kept it for sentimental reasons) but I think I wrote something like:

'Jess sör, aj känn bogi, iff jo stej jo kant gċ rċng'laugh

*Dries tears from her eyes and soothingly rubs stomach*

Cola-au-lait - en hummer skyder Smċland (or something close). And everything else, really.

I wonder if anything like it has been done in Danish. A bit more difficult than in Swedish, I think.

rofl

Now back to the English example.

"When 'Yes sir, I can boogie' was popular "
It still is quite popular in some hootoo neighborhoods. *boogies*

Anyway, while I like Ansiktsburk, the other songs in post 1 sounds like a bit too much of the same for my ears. winkeye

Oi! *gives tartaronne a special hug of her own*

When googling for Ansiktsburk, I found it was created as far back as 2000 - the year I signed up for h2g2. Oh my, how time flies...bigeyes

OK, not feeling sleepy enough yet, so I'll just try and 'translate' the nonsense Swedish 'translation' into English.

Ansiktsburk (Face jar)

Face jar
Face jar
He got the hat he wanted
He told on his little gal
Tjohofidelittan hat (tjoho.. being some kind of tra-la-la meaning nothing)

Repeat but with chorus this time

Hammarby-Nisse is looovely (Nisse probably being a supporter of the Hammarby football team)
Bitter he is not - yeh, bleep

Repeat

When the hat is finished
he barges in for a haaaaat

Face jar
Face jar
He got the hat he wanted
He told on his little gal
Tjohofidelittan hat

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

See? Complete and utter nonsense, like tartaronne's remark abut a lobster shooting Smċland (which is from one of the other videos).

Would you like to attempt to translate 'en helgrimmad mċsskit' into English, Pierce?evilgrin

Oh, and you might get a hug as well, seeing as how everyone that has posted here so far has had one - wouldn't want a sex symbol like you feeling left out, would we now?winkeye

And then we put Titania's translation into google and finally learns that the original Turkish text is

Yüz kavanoz
Yüz kavanoz
O istedigi sapka var
Onun küçük gal Dogum söyledi
Tjohofidelittan sapka

Hammarby-Nisse oldugunu güzel
Aci degil mi - yeh,

Zaman hat tamamlandiginda
o bir sapka için mavnalar

Yüz kavanoz
Yüz kavanoz
O istedigi sapka var
Onun küçük gal Dogum söyledi
Tjohofidelittan sapka

silly

Hmmmm... why does this remind me of the Danish defend command?

Ok, here's a really, really tricky one. See, there is a quite large minority of Finns in Sweden and as such, we're entitled to have news in our own language in the state TV channels.

Someone decided to make a parody of one of these news episodes. Now, while I'm aware that some of the comments suggest that the parody is making Finns look stupid, I disagree. After all, both my parents are Finnish and while I was born in Sweden, I was still born a Finnish citizen. And I laughed so hard I almost fell of my chair.

It's actually Swedish spoken with a Finnish accent with some Finnish words or postpositions added:
