I used to ceilidh
Post: 1

I LOVE to ceilidh dance. The problem is that I used to go with Tommy Kelliher, and when we broke up I couldn't go anymore. (Him being the Irish one I thought that it would be impolite to encroach on his dancing space). I ceilidh danced for 4 months though, and loved every minute.

Sevens! smiley

Get back to it immediately - or something similar. There must be a Scottish folk dance society somewhere near you. I have found them in Hong Kong (of course) in Bulgaria (where the exercise saved my sanity) in Cameroon (where it was so hot I alternated pints of water with the whisky). In Poland I "taught" the easy ones on residential courses and on a Chinese island I roped in some Chinese sailors to make up the numbers. It really is the best exercise and you can go on doing it when you're old -some of the members of my present drinking club can give me ten years.smiley

I understand what you're saying, but in Chicago anyway, it seems like a club. I have the same hard time with it that I do with latin dancing. I love to latin dance and ceilidh dance, but I learned to dance on swing dancing.

The thing I love about swing dancing is that approaching someone you don't know and asking them to dance is not suggestive or an invitation to date, and it's encouraged. All the other dances I've tried are difficult to break into if you're single. (at least, that's what I've found).

Find the Scottish Folk dance club and tell them I sent you. No,seriously.I'll admit that it helps to know someone, but I knew only one of the present gang (slightly) when I joined and have had a good time with help from men and women half my age.I don't go to things like the St Anrews Ball because I don't have a partner, but otherwise it's the best way to get exercise AND meet new people. I'm about to buy my first pair of proper dancing slippers, hesitating between green and purple. Don't give up on it.
