Comp Safaris

Balls to whomever wrote this about comping. 90 miles an hour off road? you having a laugh? Its very rare for the hillrally or borc entrants to get to that speed off road - on a flatter surface.

Yes, the comps are specifically set out to reduce the speeds, but we have a maximum time, not a minimum time. It's blatently obvious that if someone with a smaller engine and less comp spec turns up one minute faster than the usual suspects that they have cut the course, not by exceeding the speed.

Having been comping and navigating for a number of years now it makes me so cross when someone who has clearly never attended an event presumes to write up about it. Why not ask those who know what they are talking about.

This article makes out Comp Safari drivers to look like lunatics who are nothing more than speed freaks. We work so hard with ALRC and MSA to give a good image of ourselves. We behave impecably on sites and take every opportunity to limit any potential damage to land owners property.

If you wanna go off road at 90 miles an hour then you'd better have big pockets, because your land rover will never last one event at that speed.

If you dont believe me then I recommend you try it yourself. Maybe buy a fancy but flimsy mattserati or bowler, I guarantee you wont make the finish.

<<Balls to whomever wrote this about comping.>> Firstly, welcome to h2g2 and thank you for your polite review of this article. I am the author.

<<Yes, the comps are specifically set out to reduce the speeds, but we have a maximum time, not a minimum time.>> My apologies, you are quite correct. It appears that I have used the word minimum, when it should be maximum. I will arrange to have the error corrected by reporting it to Feedback-Editorial

<<Having been comping and navigating for a number of years now it makes me so cross when someone who has clearly never attended an event presumes to write up about it. Why not ask those who know what they are talking about.>> With respect, I too have been comping and navigating for a number of years.

<<This article makes out Comp Safari drivers to look like lunatics who are nothing more than speed freaks.>> I disagree, but if you'd like to point out the parts of the article that give readers that impression, then I will happily discuss the matter with you.

<<If you wanna go off road at 90 miles an hour then you'd better have big pockets, because your land rover will never last one event at that speed.>> Please note that I referred to 'open' competitions. Some competitors do have the ability and finances to build extremely fast machines.

<<If you dont believe me then I recommend you try it yourself.>> I have, and I've enjoyed it immensely. Another aspect I have found tremendously rewarding with the clubs I've been involved with has been the friendly, good-nature of the members. Many thanks for taking the time to read and respond to my article.
