People are always going around saying "Schadenfreude (the pleasure one feels from witnessing another's misfortunes) has no equivalent in English", to which I cannot help but wonder whether they have never heard of gloating...
gloat: v. to regard one's own good fortune or the misfortune of others with smug or malicious pleasure
