What's the problem? Canada is in America; as is the USA. Didn't the Canadians in the audience know that then?

Whilst Canada is indeed located in (on?) the continent of North America, it is quite clear from the article that the young lady in question used the term 'America' as short hand for the country (United States of America) and not the continent (North America).
