Chat-up lines are no good
Post: 1
Posted Jul 4, 2002 by One of the goodguys
Personally I think that chat-up lines shouldn't be used at all. Nothing wrong with trying to start up a conversation with someone in a social setting, but 'lines' are not good at all. Why should we, e.g. in the hope of making the person laugh while actually risking offence, use an innuendo as a supposed compliment to a stranger?! That's very disrespectful, especially of someone we don't even know/know how they'll react. With all the insincerity that comes from people's behaviour in settings where alcohol has been drunk, we should be more careful and considerate over what we say to those we don't know yet.

Chat-up lines are no good

Personally, whenever someone has tried to use a line on me, it does not, cannot work, because it makes me feel like I'm not even really a person. It does come across as insincere and self-centred, to be honest. It shows that the person talking to me cares more about themselves and what they want than about me, or about really getting to know me.

I did not use a "line" on my partner at all.
We had got to know each other over a few weeks and were left alone watching a film in uncomfortable chairs in a nurses home.

After about 20 minutes I asked my partner if they were comfortable.
No came the reply.
I patted my lap and the rest is history. biggrin
