Posted Oct 1, 2005 by Terran of the Shire (Stupid fat hobbitses) The Universe is huge... to paraphrase a certain guide to the galaxy. But everything is so phenomenally complex that no one (even those who claim to) can as of yet understand.
The problem with modern art is based on somewhat abstract human inventions. Porcelain Toilets, cut up animals, straight flat jagged edges - or at least thats the way it appears. The Universe doesn't work like that. The universe is flowing, it is constructive and it is devastating. Everything we do or see comes in some way from this. To look beyond the surface is undeniably positive, because we are all far more complex than we can imagine.
But I like pictures of nature. I like pictures of the world around us. Because it flows, and doesn't hide behind the line "but you don't understand", instead it invites you in - it wants you to learn. And thats what I think art is about - understanding the greater mysteries of life, the universe and everything.
